Orroroo Half Marathon

Over the last three years we have tried without success to hold the Orroroo Half Marathon. Covid with its continuing restrictive social distancing lockdowns and have taken their toll in that early new year period.
In this time we have lost some of our hard working volunteers and organising committee, to the point where we are struggling to survive as a viable committee to organise the race to the best of our ability.
Despite trying to get other groups interested in organising the race, or becoming involved in the committee we have come to the realisation that our community volunteers are all stretched for time and effort just as we are.
Sadly, we have decided not to hold this event this year, and the committee made the difficult decision to not continue with what has proven to be a really fabulous event.
We apologise to those who have taken the time to contact us, and hope that you will continue with your love of running, walking and racing well into the future. I am very sad that we will not be part of your program going forward.
For those of you who had left your race registrations with us after the 2020 cancellation, please email us with your details and we will ensure refunds are made. This applies to those sponsors who whish to be reimbursed too.
Thankyou!! all of you for your attendance and competition at Orroroo during the 13 years the race was held, we loved having you and hope we meet again some time again.

Reluctantly the committee for the Orroroo Half Marathon have made the decision to not hold the event in 2022. With such a small organising group we feel that our capacity is stretched in the current climate, but we are thrilled that we will be joined by another community group in 2023 to promote a bigger and better event.

Third time lucky? we were hoping that an event can be organised for Sunday March 27th 2022, and had started preliminary promotion, so hope it can all still go ahead, what with borders and new variants in the headlines. Keep your eyes peeled as summer wears on for more information, and hopefully on March 27th, we'll all be in the Main Street of Orroroo enjoying the 2022 Orroroo Half Marathon action. Same races, run and walk, and lots of kids activities and food stalls for your enjoyment.

2021 Orroroo Half Marathon:2021 Orroroo Half Marathon
Well! What a roller-coaster 12 months we have had, and it seems that it is still a little uncertain from time to time too!
As you know our 2020 event was cancelled just prior to the day as a result of the lock down due to the declaration of the Covid-19 Pandemic in March 2020.
We had originally hoped that we would be able to hold the 2021 event and had set the date for Sunday 28 March 2021, however, there are some regulations and requirements which need to be followed for sporting and social events which require more volunteer helpers, and as such we feel that we may not be in a position to protect our competitors, volunteers, and community members as we need to.
Ensuring we have adequate supervising Covid Marshalls, as well as the timers and extra drink station attendants is stretching our few very hard-working volunteers more thinly.
Reluctantly, we are postponing our 2021 Orroroo Half Marathon, but will definitely endeavour to organise the event for 2022, with our usual markets and family friendly activities.
Hoping that you all stay safe in 2021, and that we can enjoy your participation and company in 2022.

"To all our competitors, sponsors, volunteers and friends,
2020 has certainly been a different year so far, with the cancellation of many events and other sporting programs changed in ways we never thought possible.
Whilst it was disappointing not to be able to have the Orroroo Half Marathon in March 2020, we do hope to be able to host the event in 2021. All of our sponsors have kindly held over their support for the next event and many of our regular participants have held over registrations too, and we thank you all for your trust and support in our organisation.
WE ARE PLANNING THE 2021 ORROROO HALF MARATHON FOR THE 28 MARCH 2021.
Whilst we are unsure of how things will be standing in March 2021 as far as COVID restrictions are concerned, we hope we will have the opportunity to put on a good community event using whatever COVID requirements we need to make.
This is just a heads up for our competitors, friends and sponsors to let you know we are keen to get our show back “on the road” and hopefully the next 6 months will allow us to be able to plan a fun and successful road event!

Due to the ongoing restrictions due to the COVID-19 Virus, and the need to protect our community and our competitors and volunteers, we have reluctantly decided to CANCEL the 2020 Orroroo Half Marathon. For those who have already registered I will email you individually, and arrange refund of your registrations. Thank you to everyone for your support during the last few days, and we dearly would have loved to have had the race, but it is getting increasingly difficult to ensure the health and safety of you all.
We will be back on Sunday 28 March 2021 if all goes well!!

Three and a half weeks till registrations close for the 21K and 10K run or walks at the Orroroo Half Marathon!
And 10 days to order the new race singlets or T-shirts!

We are thrilled that Jess Trengove will be joining us to run as part of her qualifying program for her bid to go to the Olympics in Tokyo this year. Come and cheer her along on her 2.5 hour race, (she will start at 8am, then return to start again (hopefully non-stop) with the 21K competitors!).
Jack Trengove will be running too, his first marathon, in support to Jess, along with a good field of 21K runners who have already registered.

The country looks a little greener than it did last year following some rain earlier in the year, and the community is looking forward to hosting you all for another great morning of running or walking with Lions BBQ and the Gum Tree Cafe Pies & other hot food, and pub lunches from both the Orroroo Hotel and the Commercial Hotel to sustain you before you head home again. Visitors and family members will have access to food stalls, tea & coffee and the Store on Second to browse while the runners are on the road. Come and support the Orroroo drought recovery!

And don't forget, we have the Second Street Scramble for the Primary aged children immediately after the 5K race starts! Please have these registrations in by 9:15am, Because we have no major markets this year the kids can do laps of the street, and will start and finish at the main finishing line.
