What a great way to finish our week in Weipa and surrounding communities. After countless school and community visits in the local communities earlier in the week and a great corporate day on Friday with all sponsors and stakeholders, on Saturday night a huge local crowd turned out to see the Goodline Central Cape Allstars turn in a gallant performance against the Embley Australian Legends.

With perfect weather conditions and a huge effort by Michelle Kostecki and her very hard working committee at the Central Cape Suns Junior Rugby League, Andoom Oval was presented in terrific condition to ensure the large crowd had a very enjoyable evening watching the Legends in action.

Also a special mention to all sponsors for your support in making the event such a great success including key partners WCCCA, Community Enterprise Queensland and proudly supported by the Queensland Government.

Thanks again to Weipa Bowls Club for hosting the Legends of League Dinner last night with sponsors and stakeholders. Both teams were presented on stage to a crowd of over 200 people. A fantastic venue with great service and hospitality. A very enjoyable night had by all. David Kostecki will be playing for the Goodline Central Cape Suns Allstars against the Embley Australian Legends at Andoom Oval, Weipa on Saturday May 23 at 6.00pm.

David says “I’ve been part of the Central Cape Suns JRL Community since my two boys first laced up their boot at six years old. Over the ears, I’ve watched this club grow, strengthen, and become a real pillar for families in our region”

“I’ve become heavily involved in the ILOL Program and the Allstars team because they represent more than just rugby league – they support mental wellness, bring families together, and strengthen community connections through the game we all love”

“This event is especially meaningful to me. I’ll be sharing the field with people I grew up with, watching them have their big moment in front of their kids. Kareem Tabuai will be playing for the Goodline Central Cape Suns Allstars against the Embley Australian Legends at Andoom Oval, Weipa on Saturday May 23 at 6.00pm.

Kareem says “I have played for many clubs throughout the Torres Strait, Western & Northern Cape, and Cairns, proudly representing my communities through Rugby League. First of all, it's an honour to have the opportunity to be selected for the Central Cape Allstars team”.

“Playing alongside many of my local role models and idols throughout my football journey means a lot to me. To also play against players I've looked up to is a privilege that doesn't always come around. For me, this is bigger than football. It's about leadership, representing our people with pride, and setting an example for the next generation coming through. I want young kids – especially my own children - to see that Rugby League can create opportunities, build strong values, and keep our culture and community connected Rugby League has always been part of our lives and our community. It brings families together, teaches respect and discipline, and gives our young people something positive to strive for. A big thank you to Western Cape Community College (Weipa Campus) primary school and St Joseph’s Primary School for hosting our visit this morning. With over 200 students in attendance they enjoyed some skills clinic sessions by the Legends players and a healthy eating session hosted by Community Enterprise Queensland. Special mention to WCCCA for being our Presenting Sponsor and also supported by the Queensland Government. Thanks also to Northern Pride players for assisting in the skills clinic today.
