Visual artist Liang Luscombe, musician Isobel D’Cruz Barnes and dramaturg Haneen Mahmood Martin have been collecting different accounts of the pontianak folktale. Perhaps the most famous figure in Southeast Asian folklore, she is a woman who either died during childbirth or by the hands of her jealous husband, and someone who only haunts men or haunts both men and children.

Find out what happens in their version staged at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre.

Tix available through the link in the bio.

Elbow Room are at it again - curating and hosting another Scratch Night at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre.

This time the award-winning independent theatre company is asking what art makes you want to make art?

Join us for a scratch night which is themed 'love' - specifically, the music that inspires you to do your thing. A song that follows you around, an album you can't forget, a track that transports you to another time and place.

As always with Elbow Room, no holds are barred - irreverent, earnest, plain-spoken, obscure, absurd, all approaches are welcome, from individuals or teams.

Come to watch or present a new work in progress!

If you'd like to participate in this scratch night, apply here: https://tinyurl.com/39pvf97f

The team will finalise the lineup by 25 May

How does SLOP speak to and build upon some of the ideas explored in Rebecca Jensen’s previous works, including SLIP?

“SLOP extends key ideas from SLIP, which looked at technofeudalism, systems of control, and the seemingly invisible forces shaping our trajectories. In SLIP, we worked with foley as a metaphor for what happens behind the scenes, what is constructed, concealed, or manipulated out of sight - the body is tethered to sound. SLOP builds on this by engaging more directly with overflow, excess, and the instability of meaning in an oversaturated landscape.”

“A question I ask myself and often work from is “where is the body in all of this?” which often poses further questions about materiality, perception and relationships.”

Experience SLOP from next week!
