A message to all swimmers entered in this year’s event!

Newcastle surf club recognizes the new level of swimmer anxiety after the recent shark attacks. We want to assure our participants that we are taking every possible precaution and safety measure available to mitigate all possible hazards. These measures include 5 IRBs, a jet ski and 20 board paddlers. The SLSA drone will also be scanning the ocean and we have limited our entries to 300 to ensure water safety ratios are over the recommended numbers.
We can’t have ultimate control over what is a dynamic marine environment but we will make every effort to try and deliver a safe and enjoyable swim.
As always, we will monitor all the current conditions and keep everyone informed of any decisions made over the next few days.
All going well, we will see you Saturday for another great swim.

What a day!!!! The southerly came through last night and kicked up the waves at Newy. So Newcastle was closed today which means a last minute change of course. Nobby's to Nobby's. We still managed to get an approx. 2km swim.
A huge shout out to the volunteers from Newcastle and Nobby's surf clubs. Also to HEvents for all their support. Got it done. Thank you swimmers for rolling with the punches.
