A bit over a month ago we held the very last Mind Matters Ball.
With the backing received from our wonderful sponsors, the generosity of donating local businesses here in Newcastle and the enthusiasm towards preventing su***de shown by those who came along, we were able to raise over $50,000 for and .
This brings the total funds raised by the Mind Matters Ball for su***de prevention to over $215,000.
While raising this money is obviously something the team and I are very proud of, we’ve also had 100s of guests attend over our event each year.
Those are now people that know how to have an R U OK? conversation and people that know what resources are available when someone might not be. Those people are going to go on to use that knowledge and have their own positive impact on those they care about.
That’s pretty special if you ask me.
Even though it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to the Mind Matters Ball, all good things must come to an end and so after five years I couldn’t think of a better time to call it.
This started out as a passion project of mine because I wanted to give back to an organisation that saved my life. To see how far it’s come since then is something I never expected and something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully comprehend.
Thank you so much to the committee - Sam, Hayls & Loch as well as all the other legends who have taken on a role as part of the organising committee over the years.
And to everyone else who played a role in helping us make a difference here with the Mind Matters Ball, from the bottom of my heart thank you.
