we are saddened to announce the passing of Chris Piggott yesterday at Raleigh Raceway, Raleigh NSW.

The Pell Family and Volkswagen Spectacular share a long-standing history with Chris and his family. Since our inaugural Volkswagen Spectacular we continued our Lapdash events at each shows at Raleigh Raceway . His unwavering support friendship and dedication to the raceway have been instrumental in the success and cherished memories of our event over the years.

Chris will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Our heartfelt thoughts and sincere sympathy go to Brad, Daniel and Rachael and Helen during this incredibly difficult time.

Last year, Sam approached me about creating a video that captured the history of the Volkswagen Spectacular. This is the video he put together.
When Sam first contacted me, neither of us realised that this project would become such a meaningful reflection of our journey — especially knowing that in 2026 we would make the very difficult decision to bring the Volkswagen Spectacular to an end due to progress at Valla Beach Holiday Park and a number of other factors.
This decision truly broke my heart and was not made lightly.
Over the years, I was often asked what I would like to see happen to the show if it ever came to an end. My answer has always been the same — I would not want anyone else to take it on. The Volkswagen Spectacular is part of our family’s history, and that is how I would like it to be remembered.
I hope this video helps honour that legacy.
