14/07/2025

Attention all patrons, stall holders, artisan, reenactment groups, food vendors and those that venture far and wide to attend the annual Barossa Medieval Fair.

It is with great sorrow and parting sadness, that we are made to announce the cancellation of the 2025 Barossa Medieval Fair.

It has been a hard decision to make and one that most certainly is not without dues consideration and understanding how this will affect the many involved.

With personal issues and unforeseen circumstances on the horizon, this year's battle has sadly needed to lay arms down.

We deeply and sincerely apologise for the delay and inconvenience this may have caused all of the fantastic participants and supporters.

We are hoping to bring it back in 2026 bigger and better than ever before, but first planning.

We hope to see you in the returning year 2026 with an all-new event.

⚔️🛡 BRING OUT YA DEAD! 🛡⚔️

We all know the scene set during the bubonic plague epidemic, begins with Eric Idle walking through a village ringing a triangle and repeatedly shouting, "Bring out your dead".

With corpses stacked high on his clapped out wagon, in which becomes a debate with a peasant who in his attempt to drop off an elderly man who is "not dead yet". Does not win.

HOWEVER! there is a much darker and mournful meaning behind the saying "Bring out ya dead!"

Plague carts were the only way of transporting numerous dead to the churchyard or plague pits, although families also carried their own dead and buried them on their farms.

The rumble of cartwheels on cobblestone roads, the sound bouncing off the walls. The tinkling of bells on a horses harness, the mournful call, “Bring out your dead".

Before it was deemed forbidden, church bells would toll for every dead, till the bells became a constant ding across old city of London.

Priests had small boys walking before them ringing bells — until both priests and boys were also carried in a plague cart.
