After two decades of stability and reliability, we are extremely disappointed to inform our community about a situation completely outside our control.

For over 20 years, the Caboolture Open has been held on the same weekend every single year (excluding COVID disruptions). Our date has never changed, and event organisers across the country know exactly where it sits in the calendar.

Despite this, the national body—Australian Taekwondo —has unilaterally moved BOTH of their international events directly onto the long-standing Caboolture Open weekend.

This decision was made without any proper consultation with existing event organisers nationwide. And it doesn’t just affect us—several established events across Australia, along with state associations who directly or indirectly support them, have now been thrown into disarray because of this scheduling change.

We have spent the past couple of days trying to find a workable alternative date in July, and we will continue to find a suitable solution, but the options are slim to impossible:

As it stands (July);

ATQ Selections already locked in

Chuncheon Korea Open also scheduled in July

Queensland school holidays, severely restricting venue and travel feasibility

Because of this 'cascade of clashes'—triggered entirely by Australian Taekwondo’s decision—we may be forced to cancel the 2026 Caboolture Open outright.

We want to be absolutely clear:
This situation was avoidable. It did not need to happen. And it certainly should not have been created without discussion with the very event organisers and state bodies who keep Taekwondo running at the grassroots, state, and national level.

Our community deserves better than this.

We will continue to explore every option available and will update everyone as soon as we can. Thank you to all athletes, families, referees, and volunteers who continue to support the Caboolture Open—we will always fight to provide opportunities for our community, even when higher-level decisions make that harder than it should be.

The Final Kyorugi Draw is numbered and locked down. For those athletes in multiple divisions, don't stress if you have fights close to each other, we will work with you all to give you enough of a rest.

** UPDATE #2 **

Due to unfortunate scheduling issues, our plan to have one of our sponsors, FightHQ, selling merchandise this weekend has run aground. We are, however, working closely with them to be still able to sell the KPNP eSocks on site. We do apologize for this, but we are positive we will have a solution for you. Unfortunately, though, there will be NO other TKD merchandise stalls on site.

Our venue management has asked us to bring forward our bump-in/setup time frame, and as such we are forced to bring forward our [optional] weigh-in time.

Saturday weigh-in was originally scheduled for a 4pm start, however this will occur between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday. This weigh-in is only OPTIONA, the regular weigh-in will be 7:30am on Sunday morning.
