INTERNATIONALS RIDE FOR CRUMP TROPHY !!
A wonderful field of International riders has been collected by Mildura Motor Cycle Club to ride in the 2024 Phil Crump Solo Classic, to be held at Olympic Park Speedway on Sunday 29th December.
The Crump Solo Classic is one of the feature meetings at Mildura and this year, Solo Coordinator, Ryan Sedgmen and our local Overseas stars have worked hard to gather a superb field for the holiday meeting with the Club being very pleased with the quality of the field contracted.
Mildura already has seen the return of 2024 Team Great Britain, Gold Medalist, Tom Brennan, who was placed on the podium in the mid-December Jason Lyons Solo Trophy, finishing behind the two local Mildura International stars, Justin Sedgmen, who won the meeting ahead of the week previous’ Victorian Solo Champion, Jaimon Lidsey.
Last years Mildura visitor from the UK, Sam Hagon, returned home after his “down under” visit to win the British Under 21 Championship mid season, having gained massive experience at Olympic Park during his sabbatical in the sun.
Three other Nations are represented with Czech Champion and Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) rider Jan Kvech, who will have his first visit to Australia. Luke Becker is the current USA Champion and is a regular rider in the British Premiership League, this year riding for Leicester. Jonas Jeppersen, from Denmark, will be at Mildura to pit his skills against the top standard field which includes former Australian Champions, Sam Masters, Brady Kurtz and Rohan Tungate, who is also the defending Champion. Kurtz was the winner of the SGP Challenge, which qualifies him into the SGP for season 2025. Australia has the strongest representation in SGP for next year with Jack Holder, Jason Doyle and Max Fricke seeing Kurtz join the top sixteen riders in the World.
Local stars, Justin Sedgmen, who is riding in top form along with Jaimon Lidsey, who is riding similarly, will expect to be at the top of the score chart at night’s end. Adelaide’s Fraser Bowes and two Sandgropers, Luke Killeen and Mitch McDiarmid, all vying for points along the way against the International stars and visitors.
The Crump Trophy is always hotly contested with the feature event being the amazing Six rider, six Lap Final, which always is viewed with trepidation by many regular speedway patrons. Careful selection of a start gate is vitally important, as room is at a premium at both the Start line and through turns one and two, especially on the first lap. Many of these Crump Classic traditions were what the “Mildura Marvel”, Phil Crump, rode as a regular part of the traditional Olympic Park program, back when he was riding.
Phil will be in attendance and will enjoy watching the “stars of today” at their work and will present the Trophy which bears his name.
Tickets for the Crump meeting will be available at the Olympic Park gates from Gate opening at 4:00pm.
