Crown Ruler

22/10/2026

🥂💞💃🕺 Fresh from their appearances at Meredith Music Festival the weekend prior, Crown Ruler and Magnetic City bring an extraordinary gathering of musical talent to The Night Cat for a six-hour celebration of disco, boogie, soul and Detroit dance music.

James ‘D-Train’ Williams is one of the defining voices of New York’s post-disco era. His recordings with Hubert Eaves III for Prelude Records helped shape the sound of boogie and laid foundations that still run through house, soul and electronic music today. You’re The One For Me, Keep On, Music, Walk On By: stone-cold classics that have never left the dancefloor.

For his long-awaited Australian debut, D-Train joins forces with Melbourne’s mighty Mondo Freaks, the eleven-piece funk and soul ensemble whose collaborations with Leroy Burgess and Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King have made them trusted custodians of this tradition.

From New York to Detroit, the evening continues with Marcellus Pittman, one of the most formidable DJs and producers to emerge from the Motor City. A founding member of the legendary Three Chairs alongside Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Rick Wilhite, with releases on Sound Signature, FXHE and his own Unirhythm imprint. Few selectors move between low-slung house, deep disco, machine funk and unexpected territory with such instinct and authority.

DJ Colette and Jimi Dawg round out the lineup, playing back-to-back for the first time.

Outside of High Times NYE, this marks Crown Ruler’s final show of 2026. We couldn’t think of a better way to see out the year.

Crown Ruler & Tribe Sound System are running it back.

After the warehouse session with Kai Alcé & Lovie, we’re joining forces once again, this time alongside In The Moment Radio as part of The Evelyn Reimagined - an exploration through dance.

We’re honoured to welcome one of house music’s true masters.

Timmy Regisford has spent four decades shaping the language of dance music through Club Shelter, marathon sets and a lifetime devoted to the dancefloor. Few DJs embody soul, patience and storytelling quite like The Maestro.

Joining him is the one and only Zepherin Saint, setting the room before Timmy settles in for an extended journey.

Some DJs play records. Timmy Regisford has spent a lifetime keeping faith with the dancefloor.

Lovingly regarded simply as The Maestro – by every measure he is the dancer’s DJ. Across four decades, his work has quietly shaped the language of modern dance music, from the creation of Club Shelter to his influential executive roles. With understated sophistication, Timmy Regisford lays bare the primal power of music and dance, free from pretence or distraction. He is one of the great custodians of black music, and one heck of a DJ.

Time dissolves with Timmy at the helm. In an era where we chase fast moments, Timmy builds journeys. His marathon sets weave together soul, gospel, disco, jazz, afro rhythms and house into something that feels like a spiritual communion.

That reputation was forged at The Shelter – the institution founded in 1991 following the closure of Paradise Garage. More than simply another nightclub, Shelter became the spiritual heartbeat of New York’s underground, where house music reclaimed its deepest purpose. For more than three decades it stood as a sanctuary where generations of dancers gathered in pursuit of something increasingly rare – a genuine sense of communion.

To experience Timmy Regisford is not simply to witness one of house music’s defining figures. It is to stand in the presence of one of its great protectors, still illuminating the path forward by honouring everything that came before.
