About Australia Chin Community (Eastern Melbourne) Inc.,
Australia Chin Community (Eastern Melbourne) Inc., formerly known as The Hornbill Chin Association of Australia (HCAA), is a community based non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization founded in 2007 to represent and promote interests of members of the local Chin community in Eastern Melbourne, who arrived i
n Australia as genuine refuges from Burma (Myanmar) via Malaysia, India, and Thailand. The Organization also provides a wide range of supports and runs activities for the community living in the Eastern region, and works to promote greater knowledge of local integration and maintaining the Chin culture. Objectives
The Organization’s main objectives are:
- To preserve and promote the Chin culture and literature
- To provide social supports and activities for the Chin
community
- To look after the social wellbeing of the Chin community
Regular Activities for Empowering Community
In collaboration with the Victorian School of Languages (VSL), the organization provides Yrs 1-10 Chin (Hakha) language classes at Melba College in Croydon and at Sunshine Secondary College in Sunshine. In addition, to promote greater knowledge of the Chin (Hakha) language and culture and its tradition. Annually, ACC (EM) In., runs Chin National Day on 20 February, Chin Championship Cup (soccer and volleyball) tournament during September and October, and THO (Harvest Festival) in October, English Language program (September - October), Music festival once in two - three years. ACC (EM) Inc., is closely working with local service providers such as Health Services and Settlement Services, local authority, Victoria Police, Parliamentary Members for State and Federal. It also participates in local festivals and providing funeral services and social supports for its members and holds cultural events, sport activities, and educational and cultural seminars for the Chin community living in Melbourne.
