A grand and intimate evening filled with tears, laughter and great tunes.
Music critic and all-around legend Derrick Gee turned a packed Melbourne Recital Centre into his private living room for the eclectic Radio Hour.
“The show is a celebration of music and those who listen to and embody it,” said Gee. “I am the host, the music is the spark and the audience is the fire.”
Over a series of illuminating and nostalgic segments, Gee welcomed special guests including Julia Jacklin, who unforgettably covered the late Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You and debuted her new single The Hardest Thing.
Georgia Knight impressed with an interstitial e-harp and Efficient Space founder Michael Kucyk played an unreleased dubplate from Luritja singer-songwriter Keanu Nelson.
Add a throwable microphone, a 50-metre-long AUX cord and some very brave audience participation and it was a communal listening experience for the ages.
