Abductors 🦵

You can train them in so many ways, and although small changes will slightly alter the exact muscle groups that are targeted there is no one best way!

We like to train them a myriad of ways, one in which is training them in a similar position to how they are engaged during that individual’s chosen sport.

The featured example is a for a downhill slalom skier!

Like everything there is a process! Get em strong with some Copenhagen variations, get them working well with movement patterns such as lateral lunges then look at some of the positions that person may get into in their chosen sport that will put tension/load/stress on those adductors.

What can you control?

So many of us overestimate what’s actually in our control!

You can’t control your coaches, family members and competitors reactions and behaviours!

You can’t control the judges!

You can’t control the sporting line up, nature and the weather!

You can’t control the outcomes!

Unfortunately a great deal of your focus, attention and time is spent wasting valuable energy on things you can’t control.

Life isn’t short we just waste too much time focusing on things that are not important!

Learn what is in your control and double down your focus on those things and those things alone!!

More bang for your buck than a combo meal!

Here is what you may not know;

This exercise has prerequisites

1. Athlete needs to hinge well
2. Athlete needs to shift weight laterally well
3. Athlete needs to rotate well
4. Athlete needs a certain degree of established internal hip rotation

Once these boxes are ticked only then will you get the desired outcomes from this exercise!

Who is it for?

Any athlete or human that moves laterally in a chaotic environment where they may hinge and rotate at the same time đź’Ş

Everything in its place and a place for everything!

Negative perception bias!

Yes you have it, that’s why you always pause when scrolling on conflicts, disputes and drama!

It’s why you drive past a fire or an accident far slower than a beautiful field of flowers!

It’s why after a competition or a week of hard work all you can focus on are the things that didn’t go as planned!

Try this journaling tip to help rewire the brain and bring that focus and attention back to all the things you did well or improved at!

One of the biggest mistakes I see is coaches throwing athletes into so called plyometrics and advanced jumping exercises without actually teaching that athlete how to land, eccentric load and jam their brakes on.

It’s a recipe for disaster either in the short term or puts a massive performance ceiling on them long term.

When you have been in this game long enough you will see things you missed 10years ago come back to bite you.

You must have a system or process, and a part of that process early on must focus of good biomechanics during landing, eccentric strength and the ability to drop quick and jam the brakes on hard!

Then you can start to get fancy with your jumps and true plyo exercises.

SIDE NOTE: I mentioned so called plyos earlier as a great deal of the influencer type coach posts that say they are doing plyo jumps are about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. It’s obvious they don’t know wha a true plyo is, as a true plyo has a ground contact time of 200milliseconds or less, like pogos, rapid hurdles and some depth jumps.
