I am embarrassed to admit that I have never watched an AFLW game.

In my defense, I typically only watch the AFL on Anzac Day and the Grand Final. Not because I don’t enjoy it, just because life is so full and I forget to put it on.

I am a committed Matildas supporter and as the mother of four daughters, I should have set a better example in supporting women’s sport.

Everything changed last week.

The AFL and Collingwood AFLW team came to visit. And boy did they put on a show. Fully immersing themselves in the community through the local schools, leading girls’ clinics, workshops, hosting Auskick, signings, plus training with the local women’s football and netball clubs.

What struck me during a Q&A session with local Grade 3 - Grade 6 students, was how humble they were.

They shared a consistent journey… Growing up they had to play footy with the boys or had to find other sports. In many cases it was the support and encouragement of their teachers and families that helped get them there. They were now doing what they loved and were grateful for the opportunity to ride the wins and losses as part of a team.

Big thank you to the AFL and Collingwood for activating such fantastic programs across our community. You have inspired on many levels. Whilst we already had a few magpies fans in the house, the love has grown deeper
🖤🤍

They also ride bikes! 🥰

Fixture has been saved… See you soon!

Mother’s Day couldn’t have come at a better time.

I have been at loggerheads with one of my daughters and could see no way out.

I realise I am the parent and need to rise above these things, but I am raising fiercely capable and independent young women. I know, I know… I created this.

Traditionally on special occasions, the girls wander down to our room with their handmade cards and gifts. This morning I was not sure how things would unfold…

It turned out to be one of my most precious parenting moments.

Despite my recent poor parenting (and her poor ‘childing’), I received a handmade card.

‘Don’t read it out loud.’

Heartfelt. Reflective. Honest. Compassionate. Brave.
She owned it too.
From ‘probably your least favourite daughter’.

I was in tears. My heart was swelling.

Equally as beautiful, another card from a different daughter saying that I was kind, ‘most of the time’ and that ‘there’s no way to be perfect but a million ways to be the best.’

If I can instil anything in my daughters it is definitely to show up as a real and authentic version of yourself. I am constantly reminding them that I am doing my best. Making mistakes is part of life, it’s what you do next that matters.

Meet Felicity.

This spectacularly talented local artist will be at MBB next weekend to combine two of her gifts through Emotional Landscapes - Creative Art Therapy.

In this simple and relaxed workshop, participants will use collage and mark-making as forms of expression. The emphasis will be on capturing the sensory and emotional impact of your environment - translating feeling, atmosphere, and personal connection onto paper rather than creating realistic imagery.

Though everyone will venture into the same landscape with the same materials, each participant will create something entirely unique, reflecting their own individual perception and emotional response.

MIND BODY BIKE | Women’s Festival
Sunday 22 February
10am - 12pm

Felicity Hayward is a qualified practicing artist and art therapist based in Mansfield, Victoria. She believes in the transformative power of creative expression to help people navigate life's challenges, process emotions, and discover new pathways toward healing and self-understanding.

Her art therapy offers a gentle, non-verbal way to explore feelings and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Through the creative process, she can help you to access deeper insights, build resilience, and foster meaningful change.
