Hey Spearos,
QLD State Titles took place in Bowen on the 3rd - 5th July in conditions that were less than ideal. However, the show must go on and 9 Opens pairs, 2 ladies and 4 Under 18's took to the waters to chase the title of QLD's best spearos and film fishers.
Day one, the Opens thumped out to Charity Reef and had an outstanding day with a lot of fish weighed in. Day 2 for the ladies, under 18's and film fishers was held at Holbourne Island and Day 3 was held at Middle Island and the conditions were extremely hard and Day 3 nearly didn't happen.
Overall, all competitors showed great resilience and everyone had a great time

There was also a special award that was handed out before the formalities started. Every year when the AUFQ has it's AGM, all in attendance vote on recipients of different awards.
This year, Logan Opie from Mackay was voted as being the recipient of the Junior Sportsperson of the Year across all AUFQ Sports and State Spearfishing Commissioner - Keiren Limpus - awarded Logan the honour at presentation. This is extra special for the Mackay Club, as it is also known as the Andrew Clough Award and Cloughy was a member of the Mackay Club and is the namesake of our annual competition - the Cloughy Challenge. Congratulations Logan - you have worked hard for this honour and if anyone has any questions about records - Logan is the man you need to speak to.
Mackay Club would like to thank everyone who travelled to compete and we hope that you all had a great time. We are looking forward to seeing everyone next year in Tweed Heads.
Also a big shout out to all our Sponsors:
