A stamp collector turned history sleuth discovers the first official test of an air mail service in Australia took place 100 years ago between Lismore, Casino and Tenterfield in New South Wales.

Per Aerial Mail

100 years ago a group of inspiring individuals from the Northern Rivers of NSW pushed the boundaries to demonstrate that carting mail over difficult terrain in Australia was easily overcome by the arrival of the future! The AVRO 504k biplane.

The details of this endeavour were uncovered with over three years of investigation by local Lismore businessman, historian and member of the Richmond River Philatelic Society, Mr Geoff Wotherspoon. The release of his 2019 book “Per Aerial Mail” timed well to coincide with the upcoming 100 year anniversary of the historic piece of Australian history.
