IT'S BACK!

Yep, the Lancelin Ocean Classic is returning 21 January 2023 - with a twist.

The Lancelin Community Resource Centre and Windsurfing Western Australia are joining forces, along with major event sponsor Patrik-Windsurfing, to create the all new 4-day Lancelin Wind Festival, to be held 18-21 January 2023. The Festival will include a range of events and activities over the 4 days, culminating in the race from Ledge Point to Lancelin on Saturday 21 January.

Cancellation 2020 Lancelin Ocean Classic Festival

The Lancelin Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) (LCCI) takes this opportunity to inform you that the scheduled 2020 Lancelin Ocean Classic Festival has been cancelled
With a number of issues arising outside the control of the LCCI we felt that there was insufficient time and funding to resolve these issues. The LCCI did everything in their power to resolve these issues and with time against us there was no other option than to cancel the event to ensure a successful and viable event that met the requirements of our funding partners.
• After 34 years of successful events we are fully aware and understand the decision will not be favorable so we apologise to our stakeholders, sponsors, community partners, accommodation providers, sailors and the public. The LCCI will now reassess and re-evaluate their options going forward in consultation with stakeholders, industry groups and community groups.
All 2020 online registration fees will be reimbursed in full and we will work with the online registration provider to have this managed as soon as possible.
For the kite surfers who opted to leave their 2019 entry fee in credit for the 2020 and now look to seek reimbursement of $75 please contact [email protected] with your address, contact number and banking details.
The Chamber will endeavour to run this iconic event for 2021 pending circumstances and ensure plenty of notice is given prior to the race.
Once again please accept our sincere apologies for the short notice and for any inconvenience caused.

KITESURFING MARATHON FALSE START OUTCOME

The Lancelin Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc takes this opportunity to thank all competitors for their patience, honesty and feedback in the issue of the 2019 Kite Surfing Marathon start break.
This has been a difficult process with a great deal of time spent examining photos, footage, talking to our team involved in the start process as well as talking to professionals, camera operators and going out to every rider in the field to allow them to make comment.
After extensive and exhaustive investigation we found that more than half of the field started falsely which resulted in no conclusive evidence as to the exact perpetrators.
We did however find conclusively that the first three riders over the line, being Guy Bridge, Mani Bisschops and Andrew Cooksey did not breach so they will be awarded their prize money. As we did not have further conclusive evidence we will not be awarding further prize monies.

We understand the decision will not please everyone so in moving forward we offer the following options;
1. Have 75% of your entry fee refunded which allows for GST, insurance, online registration fees, bank charges and administration charges.
2. Leave your entry fee in credit for 2020 with the Lancelin Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. to absorb any charges or entry fee increases as well as providing insurance cover for every competitor.

The 2020 prize pool for the Masters, Grand Masters, Women and Junior categories will all be increased with these increases being advertised when on-line registrations open.
We believe that we have done everything possible to ensure it is a fair and equitable outcome that maintains the integrity of the Kite Surfing Marathon.
Chamber of Commerce will be contacting every registered rider providing them with a copy of this media statement to ensure all are aware of the outcome.
The LOC Festival Committee will have discussions with industry leaders on how best to put in place suitable detection equipment so that rider identification can be gained in the future.

***Kitesurfing Marathon Competitors***

Further to yesterday’s post can you please respond by email to [email protected] in regards to the start break by 9.00am tomorrow morning Friday 18th to allow a decision to be made by COB Friday 18th.

After consultation with sporting professionals and race coordinators we now want as many sailors as possible to have the opportunity to have their say.

Kitesurfing Marathon – Start Break

After extensive investigation and discussions with various professionals within the industry, it has been determined that a lack of clear evidence is still not available.

Due to the number of sailors who falsely started in the 2019 Kitesurfing Ledge Point to Lancelin Marathon, the committee is working through the processes to ensure a favourable outcome is achieved.
To determine accurately we are now seeking participating sailor feedback. To fast track the process, we are calling on the honesty of sailors to report if they started early.

We have already had some feedback from other sailors of whom had falsely started on the start line. To make it fair on all the sailors we would like your honesty so as to protect the integrity of this event.
Measures will be put in place next year to ensure this sort of thing will not happen again.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated as we are striving to resolve this issue for you as soon as possible.
