Deadly to be up on stage with singing the Bundarra chant alongside our family and friends.

This is one of our traditional dances - Bundarra, the cassowary, a sacred bird belonging to the Bama of Kuranda and a strong symbol of the rainforest Bama.

To hear our mob singing the chant together and carrying the spirit of the song makes us strong.

This is what Mayi Wunba is about, keeping culture alive through dance, chant, story, and community.

It is a day of survival, mourning, reflection, and strength.

Today we honour the resilience, knowledge, and cultural authority of our peoples, who have survived invasion, adapted, and continue to thrive.

We honour those who have cared for Country for tens of thousands of years, holding deep cultural, spiritual, and practical relationships with the land.

Our knowledge systems are living and strong. They protect landscapes, strengthen communities, and offer real solutions for the future.

Acknowledging the truth of this country is how we begin to learn, heal, and move forward together.

When cultural dance, song, and story are shared with respect, Country heals — and everyone benefits.
