WORLD BEE DAY GIVEAWAY!!
There are 20,000+ species of bees on this planet. Every single one plays a role in feeding us.
When Bee Inspired launched 5 years ago, we made a deliberate choice to share our love of nature through honey bees. Because honey bees are easier to observe than their smaller native friends — we can watch them trading pollination for pollen and nectar, feeding, fanning, vibrating and waggling.
The symphony of nature, right before our eyes.
But we never forget our little pollinators.
2 out of 3 foods you eat today exist because of pollination.
Let that sink in….

Well look who I got to meet today at the NSW Apiarist Association Annual Conference in Bathurst, NSW. If you’ve seen the Disney NatGeo movie “Secrets of Bees” you will know who Dr Samuel “Sammy” Ramsay is. If you haven’t seen the movie DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR. It turns out, Sammy is such an important scientific researcher that he has invented a new big word….KLEPTOCYTOSIS! Which is exactly what Varroa are doing to our honeybees…stealing the good stuff from the bees’ fat bodies and injecting it into the eggs they produce to supercharge their growth. Which is why the eggs that the mite lays in a cell can hatch within 11 days. There’s lots of other big words I learned from Sammy. Too many to list here. But he was HANDS DOWN the most exciting presentation of the day. Especially if you like all the biology and entomology stuff like I do!! And the good news is….he now has a team of Undergraduate scientists working with him to figure out how stop the mites from stealing from our bees. Might take a while…but with people like Sammy inspiring the rest of the world, we are in very good hands.
Oh….he broke his leg but still came all the way out to Australia to talk about bees…..legend
