Just another example how local councils are out there helping small business. Yet we couldn't even get a meeting and they declined our market permit City of Joondalup - Government???

It comes after a spike in complaints from nearby residents who say the cafe’s popularity has led to issues in their neighbourhood.

A big thank you to A Current Affair for highlighting how councils are contributing to unrealistic and unreasonable red tape and barely supporting small business - as well as Hairy Man Care who shared his views on the issue.

To be clear it’s not that we “can’t afford” a traffic management team to operate our markets all day. It’s that the request itself is neither realistic nor reasonable and we do not wish to pass these costs to our stall holders who are also small local businesses. You won’t see these requirements at home opens, other markets, Carols by Candlelight, Starbucks launches, Lakeside Joondalup on a Saturday, or even the surf life saving clubs where traffic is far heavier.

While Mayor Jacob gave his time for the interview, he has never reached out to us directly or worked towards a solution. It was also disappointing to see him visibly reading from a screen, referring to a January meeting that had already been resolved successfully only for the City of Joondalup to later backflip on those agreements and introduce new undocumented requirements. We have the minutes to show for this.

Since filming, the City of Joondalup has still not made contact but they have launched their own markets in the area. We’ll let you decide if that’s just a coincidence.

Thank you again for your continued support — we hope to sea you one day soon.

We’ve never argued about safety; we’ve always supported it. As a small business ourselves, we simply want to support others but these requirements have become financially unmanageable PerthNow

A popular beachside market in Perth’s north has pulled the pin on its upcoming season, blaming rising traffic management demands from the local council.
