Bushy Creek Makers' Fair 2026 A 2-day grassroots festival 19-20 September 2026 celebrating community life and the local talent. The Fair will be held on 19 and 20 September 2026.

Local Food, live music, theatre, performers, art exhibitions and creative workshops, artisan markets, a flower show, campfire singalongs, a dinner/dance.

OUR ASK FOR THE WEEKEND

This is Us.

Well, some of Us.

This photo is only a small group of the people making the Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair happen. All around us right now, locals are setting up, decorating, cooking, cleaning, shifting things, building things, lending things, picking things up, dropping things off and quietly asking, “What else needs doing?”

And when we say Us, we mean all of us.
Us is You. Us is We.

The Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair has been built by people. People giving their time, skills, muscles, kitchens, sheds, vehicles, ideas and a fair bit of sheer determination to create something pretty bloody wonderful for our community.

This weekend, we’re asking you to be part of that too.

Carpool if you can. Parking is limited. If you arrive and things are looking particularly busy, consider driving on and coming back a little later. Better still, use the opportunity to patronise our lovely Julatten Tavern or pop down the road to The National in Mt Molloy for a breather. There is a whole weekend to enjoy, and supporting our local businesses is part of supporting our community too.

Bring your own water bottle. We’ll have drinking water available, so fill up and refill rather than buying another bottle. Help us keep the plastic fantastic to an absolute minimum.

Be patient with us. The people directing traffic, serving food, emptying bins, answering questions and sorting out the inevitable things that go bump in the night are volunteers. There will be mishaps. There will probably be moments when Plan A becomes Plan B, C or well, this’ll have to do. Give people a smile and a minute to sort it out.

Enjoy the bar, but please drink responsibly. The bar is there for the enjoyment and enhancement of the Fair. We are not your parents, and we don’t want to be. Look after yourself, look after your mates and help us keep the weekend safe and enjoyable for everyone.

And most importantly, keep an eye out.

See some rubbish? Pick it up.
See someone looking lost? Point them in the right direction.
See a volunteer juggling six things? Give them a little patience.
See someone who might need a hand? Offer one.

Because that is actually what this whole Fair is about.

Not just stalls and music and food and art.

Community.

A whole lot of people have worked their clackers off to make this weekend happen.

Now we’re handing a little piece of it over to you.

We regret to inform you that hanging around while your family looks at things is no longer your only option.

You have a side quest.

We want the weird, the wonderful, the wait… that actually goes hard, and the things everyone else walked straight past.

No fancy camera. No photography experience. No winners. No rankings. Having eyes remains the main eligibility requirement. Just an excuse to explore Bushy, make something of your own and show us the Fair through your eyes.

🌦️BUSHY’S WEATHER REPORT

Bushy has checked the weather. Bushy has consulted the clouds. Bushy has also looked out the window, which in FNQ remains a surprisingly reliable forecasting method.

Sure, we may get a bit of a sprinkle. We also may get sunshine. Clouds. A breeze. Possibly all four within 17 minutes.

We’re in Far North Queensland. We know the drill.

So, for the Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair, bring:

🔦 A torch — especially if you’re staying into the evening.
🪑A chair — settle in, listen to the music and make yourself at home.
🧥 Something warm — Julatten evenings can get surprisingly chilly.
☂️A rain jacket or brolly — just in case the sky has a little moment.
👟Sensible shoes — grass + FNQ + possible sprinkle. You know.
🧢Sunscreen and a hat — because naturally it could also be glorious.

A little weather isn’t going to stop us.

Come prepared. Come comfortable. Come for the day and stay for the music.

Coming to the very first Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair? Save this post (future you will be grateful)

Here’s the useful stuff:

• Entry is free.
⛔️ There is no ATM at the Fair. Some vendors, the Hall and the Bushy Bar will have EFTPOS, but cash is often preferred.

• Saturday market: 9am–5pm�
• Sunday market: 9am–4.30pm

✨ Saturday Night Celebration: 7pm–10pm�
✨ Sunday Community Jam: 6pm–8ish
(Yes “8ish” is an official time now)

🌿 MEET THE MAKER | HELEN RAMOUTSAKI

Poet. Potter. Observer of the natural world. Admirer of small things.

For thirty years, Helen Ramoutsaki has been part of Far North Queensland’s wonderfully varied creative community, appearing at festivals as a performing poet, storyteller and workshop facilitator.

Helen approaches her writing and making as a dance between science and art, with interconnecting natural histories and storytelling.

She notices.

The natural world has long been at the heart of Helen’s work, experienced directly and with curiosity. A sound. A movement. A change in light. A tiny moment that might otherwise slip past unnoticed.

And that makes haiku rather perfect territory.

For the Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair, Helen has combined two of her creative practices, poetry and pottery, to create the Haiku Art Quest.

Helen has handmade a collection of pottery tiles, ready to become the canvas for your own tiny poem.

Pick up your quest and wander the festival grounds, gathering inspiration as you go. Find a moment worth noticing. Then return to Helen and Julie in the Rest & Relax Area, where they’ll help you turn what you found into three brief lines and decorate one of Helen’s clay tiles in your own style.

No poetry experience required. No need to declare yourself A Writer. Just curiosity, observation and a willingness to have a go.
And then you get to choose.

Take your haiku tile home, for your wall or garden.

Or leave it with us, where it will become part of the Voices of Bushy Creek community art installation, adding your small moment to the many voices, stories and observations gathered across the Fair.

Something is happening at Geraghty Park. Yesterday the oval was sitting there looking ridiculously beautiful. The money shot of the mountains, the sky, the clouds and the glorious place.

Inside the Hall, people were printing, sorting, making and getting things ready. The signs are appearing. The merch is piling up.

The program is full.

Musicians are tuning up. Makers are packing. Art is rolling in for the exhibition. Last minute performers are submitting applications. Volunteers are doing the thousand little jobs that turn an idea into an actual Fair.

And in nine days, that beautiful empty oval won't be empty anymore.

There'll be stalls and music and art and kids and workshops and food and dancing and people everywhere.

Speaking of food... plot twist. 😬

One of our food vendors has had to pull out due to a family emergency, which means we've got room in our Food Court.

So we're putting the Bushy Creek bat signal out.

If you're a food truck, café, caterer, restaurant or local food business or a community organisation looking for a fundraiser BBQ opportunity and fancy popping up at the Fair, we'd love to hear from you.

No site fee. No commission. One day or both.
You bring the food. We'll bring the hungry humans.

And because this is how community works, we'd love everyone else to help us find them.

Come hungry… My Balanced Bowl has plans for you.

Based in Mossman, My Balanced Bowl is all about transforming nutritious ingredients into food that is genuinely delicious, with a particular knack for proving eating healthy doesn’t have to feel like punishment, and ‘vegan’ and ‘gluten-free’ doesn’t have to mean ‘boring’ 🤗

They source locally wherever possible and choose organic ingredients when affordable, with a pretty simple philosophy: good food should be nourishing, accessible AND actually taste good (which feels reasonable)

Alongside the food you’ll find at Bushy, My Balanced Bowl also offers group and individual cooking demonstrations, catering for small to medium events, and meals reacted specifically for people with restricted diets.
