🤩Mangroves are great oyster habitat too!

🦪We are lucky in the Shoalhaven/Crookhaven River. Oyster farmers can catch wild Sydney Rock Oyster Spat (baby oysters).

🎉Three years later, oysters give that special occasion a touch of luxury!

🍃 Today is World Mangrove Day!

🏖️ Mangroves are highly important ecosystems and can be found across sheltered tidal foreshores in the Shoalhaven, like the one shown here at Orient Point.
🐙These ecosystems provide critical habitat for a number of aquatic and terrestrial (animals that live on land) species.
💧 Mangroves help reduce flooding and coastal risks by providing a natural barrier from storm damage and flooding – stabilising riverbanks, preventing erosion and can help to improve water quality.
☀️ Mangroves, along with saltmarsh and seagrasses, can take a large amount of carbon out of the atmosphere and store it in their soils, roots, leaves and branches (Blue Carbon - bit.ly/3XR02Ng).
