To our Cunningham Classic cycling community,

At a KPCC Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday 8th May the Executive committee voted unanimously to cancel the 2024 Cunningham Classic road race.

The decision was not an easy one given the history and prestige of the event, but was based on the following factors:

The ongoing exposure of the club to significant financial risk and loss in the operation of the event.

An obligation to our members to be financially responsible with their funds.

The decrease of participation in racing events in Queensland and nationally.

No guarantee of the level of support from the racing community.

The high number of entries required to just break even financially (355).

The difficulty in securing and increasing sponsorship funding.

The yearly increase in necessary services to run the event e.g. traffic control, first aid, QPS etc.

Budget restrictions on Aus Cycling Qld to provide support to KPCC similar to 2023.

The KPCC Executive Committee will continue to look at strategies and opportunities to operate the event again in 2025.

Riders, note this is IMPORTANT INFORMATION about the Cunningham tomorrow;

1) if you have family/friends supporting getting you there and home with a car, please remind them they MUST leave Gatton no later than 8:50am so that they are ahead of the first race depart at 9:00am. They have to well up the road to Warwick before then and stay ahead of all races.

2) no support vehicles are to follow a race. The police will not allow following vehicles and may stop/ neutralise a race if cars are building up behind the peleton. Tell your support person not to be the one to cause a race disruption. They MUST be up the road towards Warwick before the race departs at 9:00am

3) if you have a support person handing you a bottle at the Pilton Feed Zone, please advise them that there is limited parking on the verge and it's narrow. They should park at the Pilton hall on the right just past the feed zone.

4) Tell your support driver that there is no parking on the Victoria St Warwick finish straight after the bridge right through to the roundabout after the finish line. This is an open road and there may be oncoming traffic into the finish line. As always you are required to stay in the lane up to and past the finish. Witches hats will be down the centre of the road to keep you to the left. Cars cannot park along the finish straight so as to keep clear vision.
