Red Earth will not be participating in Smashed Avo Festival 2026–27.

We genuinely wanted this to work and invested considerable time, care and resources into preparing for the New Year period.

However, with just over three months remaining and no final contract or agreed scope in place, we no longer have the time and certainty required to deliver our production responsibly and to the standards we set for ourselves.

For us, putting the Red Earth name to an event means delivering our production with the quality and care our community, artists and crew expect from us. It means honouring our responsibility to them -and that is something we will never compromise.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision for us. Please take a moment to read our statement in full above.
If you purchased a ticket expecting Red Earth, Echo Valley or the Red Earth Sound System to be there and no longer wish to attend, please contact the festival organiser or ticket seller directly regarding a refund.

More information is available through the link in our bio. If you experience any difficulties after contacting the festival, please let us know.

We will not leave our community to navigate this alone.

We are working hard to ensure the time and creative energy already invested into the New Year period are not lost. We will share more when those plans are ready.

Please keep any discussion respectful towards the artists, independent crews and teams continuing with the festival. We truly wish them all the best.

The last tune at Town Hall was no accident. We closed our Five Years anniversary with Vibronics running through the Red Earth Sound System - a little signal that the Dub Club season is coming. 🔊🔊🔊

First stop: Freo Dub Club Grand Season Opening at The Rechabite on Saturday 10 October, with Vibronics closing the final show of their first Australian tour.

VOLUME TWO 🎂🔊

Here it is, folks - the long-awaited Part Two.

With only a few days to go and preparations running high, meet the second half of our fabulous fifth-birthday line-up.

Five years of Red Earth has been shaped by lifetimes spent digging for records, collecting tunes, building sound systems, growing communities and keeping dancefloors moving.

For the second chapter of our birthday album, meet more of the friends carrying the dance this Saturday.

Each brings their own musical history - from foundation reggae and dancehall through deep dub and steppers to jungle - but all of them have helped shape the strange and beautiful dub circus we have built together in WA.

This Saturday, all those lifetimes come together into one room to celebrate properly.

Fremantle, you beautiful thing. 🌱🔊

Last weekend, more than 2,500 people gathered at Walyalup/Fremantle Arts Centre for Feast & Fire, and we were lucky enough to string up the Red Earth Sound System right in the middle of it.

Kids dancing, horns cutting through the air, scent of spices & fire, selectors at work and some absolutely committed moves from every generation! 🔥

Feast & Fire was much bigger than our corner of the grounds. A huge thank you to the City of Fremantle and the 10 Nights in Port team for bringing it all together; to the artists and makers behind the incredible sculptures and Dragon Kiln; to the chefs who fed everyone; and to every person who filled the Arts Centre with warmth, movement laughter and life.

Big love to the Red’s Tribe Horn Section for lifting the sound with us.

Next stop: Fremantle Town Hall.

On Saturday 12 September, we’re bringing the full system inside to celebrate five years of Red Earth, our community and all the strange and beautiful moments we’ve created together 🙏❤️

Before the decks, the mics, the circus mischief and the full-sized stacks of speakers, there were these little faces...who knew they would run away to join the dub circus?!?

For our fifth birthday, we’ve been raiding the family albums of some of the DJs and performers helping us take over Fremantle Town Hall.

First out of the archives: Bobby aka Smokescreen, Lynda aka Diva Dingo, Lloyd, Léo aka Papa Goat and Jenaya aka Miss Jaduuu.
