The Australian Government is developing a new National Cultural Policy to shape the future direction of the creative and cultural sector. You can make a submission now! Join us in calling for increased recognition of and support for Community Arts and Cultural Development. For more info, visit https://hubs.li/Q04gbGgB0

Image description:
The visuals expand on Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) and its role in delivering the REVIVE vision - “a place for every story, a story for every place.”

CACD is described as relational infrastructure that supports vibrant cultures, equitable and safe communities, stronger democracy, sustainable environments, and resilient local economies through long-term, place-based creative practice.

Despite its impact, CACD remains under-recognised and under-resourced, receiving only 5–6% of national arts investment through Creative Australia.

The images call for:
- formal recognition of CACD in the new Cultural Policy
- a national CACD entity within Creative Australia
- increased investment in community-based arts and culture
- better support for practitioners and future generations
- long-term funding models instead of short-term project funding
- integration of CACD across health, education, justice, climate and regional development
- stronger research and evaluation
- equitable access to resources and participation

Submissions to close 11:59pm, 24 May 2026.

Introducing Chenturan Aran, the playwright for The Supposed To Be, presented by Footscray Community Arts, Jewel Box Performances and Rising

Chenturan Aran is a Sri Lankan Tamil Australian playwright, journalist, and screenwriter. His work has been described as “terrifically sharp,” “incisively witty,” and “timely and timeless.”

Known for his sharp, irreverent voice, Chenturan’s work blends dark comedy with meta-commentary to explore memory, storytelling, modern psychology, and spiritual longing.

Megan Hunter () is a Melbourne Installation and visual artist based in Western Melbourne. Through her large installation works and textured acrylic painting style, she predominantly explores the themes of environmental activism and the everyday human perspective of the world.

Megan’s work is grounded in environmental activism, often referencing the ocean, waterways and their creatures. The bold lines, vibrant colours and textured paint featured in her works are used to explore her connection with the climate crisis and Australian wildlife. She is constantly experimenting with different materials, including the surfaces she paints upon, and developing new processes to create abstract images is fundamental to Megan’s process.

Her work has been featured in group exhibitions, including ‘Sometimes I Just Miss Hearing their Voice’ for Due West Arts Festival (2019), ‘Heart’ (2019), and BRIGHT (2023) at Footscray Community Arts. Megan’s sound art practice has led to tours through China and Hong Kong with the ensemble The Amplified Elephants. She has been involved in several public art projects and exhibitions with Jolt Arts and Footscray Community Arts. Megan has recently presented her first solo exhibition ‘Hidden Creatures’ at Woods Street Art Space (2024).

Kaye is a Sri Lankan Tamil actor/OnlyFans star who discovers she’s not just adopted — she’s a clone. She’s been created to live out the dreams of her corporate executive original, Kavitha. But how is a clone supposed to succeed in an era where authentic identity is the hottest commodity in the arts?

When Kaye and Kavitha face off, it’s the cloned child of nowhere versus a body embalmed in migrant duty. When the spectre of their mother gets involved, reality’s boundaries collapse.

From Chenturan Aran, the three-time NSW Literary Prize-nominated writer of Cut Chilli, The Supposed To Be is a Griffin Award-nominated fever dream. A tale of generational ghosts, migrant compromises, and the dangerous chase to become who we think we are supposed to be.
