Fishy Stories Welcome to Fishy Stories — a festival celebrating the magic of stories and storytelling. Stay tuned for updates or contact us at [email protected]

The program is an opportunity for children near and far to meet the authors and illustrators behind their favourite storybooks, as well as for local children to feel the sense of pride and belonging which comes from celebrating the creative pursuits of their local community. The program will showcase local talent such as renowned children’s authors and illustrators Alison Lester, Janie Frith and R

oland Harvey. Explore an expanded form of storytelling, tapping into creative storytelling through puppetry, oral traditions, illustration, circus, performance and interactive games.

The 2025 Fishy Stories festival is a huge day bursting with free events — better plan your day so you don’t miss a thing!

The famous Fish Creek Memorial Hall is hosting our three performances throughout the day..... two free Writing Challenge performances by the amazing and our only ticketed performance for the whole event - Australia's favourite Bubble man.

We are so excited that Jess Racklyeft is bringing her messy magic to Fishy Stories!

Jess works from a delightfully chaotic studio in Melbourne, creating picture books and illustrations inspired by laneways, Merri Creek, and country adventures. She’s bringing that same creative fun to Fishy Stories (woohoo) — who could resist a workshop this full of colour, imagination, and joy?

Come to the Festival — our 2025 program is jam-packed with free events and activities for everyone to enjoy!

We’re opening with an author panel hosted by Alison Lester, followed by a full day of free author and illustrator workshops, roaming performers, and performances of the 20 Writing Challenge selected stories. Explore the Picture Stories display, visit My Story Tent for hands-on activities, get creative with Box Wars, and discover Myil.

Are you up for a little Puggle Dancing?

Award-winning author Vikki Conley Author is coming to Fishy Stories — Join Vikki for some storytime fun with puppets and nature crafts and help her unlock a little Fishy Stories magic!

She’ll need a fair few helpers to bring the stories to life and have a whole heap of fun along the way!

Come to the Festival and don’t miss Vikki’s free workshop 2.00 – 2.45 pm
