Event update ...

The majority of the course has been marked with coloured arrows (red/blue/green), however, general advice is to follow the flow of the road unless signalled. Some routes do divert off though and these will all have signs to direct riders.

As a preference, please load your route onto your device as well to ensure you don't miss a turn. Strava routes are available below, simply 'star' the route and sync your device with Strava to use the route on the day.

Please be aware, the 38km option has been adjusted slightly and is now 36km. It will now loop back on itself twice past the Buffalo Farm before returning to the finish.

Weather forecast is looking perfect on Sunday. Max temp is predicted at 28 degrees which is on the warm side of things.

All riders are encouraged to bring enough water to cover their distance entered and should be self sufficient. The majority of the roads are isolated, so it's expected that riders carry their own food, water and spares.

Those doing the 70km and 94km events have the opportunity to leave extra food and water at the start. Which can be collected after the initial 46km loop. As a guide, x2 600ml bottles of water per lap are the minimum to carry.

Next in the course run-through, is the 94km option. https://www.buncheur.com/macksville-cc-the-dirty-buff-1-2-1

This course follows the 'full loop' before returning to the event centre at the 47km mark. Riders may leave water and/or food here to pick up at a suitable location before completing a second full lap. (Note, a rider cut-off time may be enforced to avoid riders being on course outside of the event schedule)

After the first 6km (which is new) riders will hit a familiar section along Mckays rd. The good news here is this section has been recently graded so is much smoother than in previous years.

Riders will follow this previous route up to the 30km mark, where a lefthand turn will place you on some unfamiliar roads. Included here are some creek crossings (expected to be dry), and more rolling terrain (maybe a few hills ;).

The run back from the 40km trends downhill and opens up to the farmlands behind Eungai. The loop involves a mixture of road surfaces and rolling terrain with a total of approx. 750m elevation each lap.

While the course will be well marked, all riders are encouraged to save the route onto their device prior to the start.

Up next in the course run-through, is the 70km option. https://www.buncheur.com/macksville-cc-the-dirty-buff-1-2-1

This course follows the 'full loop' before returning to the event centre at the 47km mark. Riders may leave water and/or food here to pick up at a suitable location before finishing the last 23km.

The final 23km of this course follows the original route for the first 6km before diverting off and following part of the 38km course. However, in the final 8km it will divert off and follow last years finish.

While the route will be well marked, all riders are encouraged to save the route onto their device prior to the start.

Have you entered yet? Trying to decide?

Starting with the shortest course (listed on https://www.buncheur.com/macksville-cc-the-dirty-buff-1-2-1 as 35km), which includes a bonus 3 km.

This course is a short but challenging route in its own right. The route follows the main route up to the 6km mark, before winding down a descent which runs past the Buffalo farm. (other routes turn off at the 6km mark)

From the 10km, the course joins the back section of the main route and follow this back to the start. From the 20km mark, the route follows new roads previously unused in the Dirty Buff.

There are a few 'longer' climbs, each around the 1-1.5km and 50 m of elevation to test tired legs with. However, there are plenty of rolling hills and sections which trend downward.

The gravel is a mixed bag on this course, ranging from smooth, fast gravel to a few chunky rock sections. Completion times will vary depending on the rider, but could take between 90 and 120 min+.
