The early mornings are getting a little easier to justify.

Entries for the 2027 Sandman50 are now open.

For those who are members of AUTRA, your member discount is available through the AUTRA website. One of the small rewards for being part of the running community, and hopefully enough to buy something useful for the training ahead.

There are also three books available with the Sandman50 discount for anyone looking for a bit of reading material along the way.

A small but important detail with the books: payment is made when you collect your race bib at Text & Co. You won’t be charged for them through the registration platform.

Three books, a long way to run, and plenty of time to wonder why this seemed like a good idea.

Before sunrise, the beach is a fairly honest place.

The water is quiet, the shoreline is still and there’s usually very little to distract you from the distance ahead. It’s also a good time to wonder why we keep choosing adventures that require quite a bit of training and an alarm clock that seems unnecessarily early.

The answer, of course, is usually somewhere out there on the horizon.

If the Sandman50 has been sitting somewhere in the back of your mind, Friday is the day to put it on the calendar properly.

The beach will be waiting.

The question is, will you be joining us?

The beach tells you plenty before the sun does.

Some mornings it's glassy enough to see yesterday's footprints still holding their shape in the damp sand. Other mornings the wind has wiped the slate clean overnight. The only constant is the sound of the water finding its way back to shore, one wave at a time. It's a good place to stand before the day gets busy and wonder what the next adventure might look like.

If you've been waiting for a sign, this might be it.

Entries for the 2027 Sandman will open before the end of the month. There's still a little time to think about the distance that keeps creeping into your thoughts, the mate you've been meaning to convince, or whether this is the year you finally stop saying "maybe next time."

No rush. The beach will still be here tomorrow morning. But there's something satisfying about putting a date in the calendar and letting the anticipation quietly build.

Like the bay at night, we have been quiet.

We have checked the charts and looked at options for Sandman XII. With all things considered we will hold the event on Saturday 23 January 2027.

Things to know. Registration fees have remained the same ($70 solo, $95 Duo, AURA members discounted), bib collection will be from Text and Co prior to the event, no changes to the 2026 course will be made. A new website is live www.sandman50.com.au and email [email protected]
