Reflecting on the year just gone and the year that lays ahead, we want to share these special moments from the 2023 Festival Opening and Welcome to Country with Uncle Allan (pictured), Phillip Marsden, Malakai Bolland Hoskins (pictured) and Joshua Marsden.

We start this new year with hope, respect and gratitude for all those working towards a better world.

Our contribution is a small one but we all know how music can bring people together. We feel it’s important to look back to the opening ceremony to be inspired and create the space for growth as a community.

With a warm heart we welcome back Chloe & Jason Roweth. They are family to us and it’s always a joy to have the Roweth family at the festival.

Drawing their inspiration from the warmth of old-style bush entertainment and folklore, Chloë and Jason work with vibrant arrangements of new and old traditional Australian ballads and work songs, early country music, original music, poetry, yarns, and dance tunes weaving together and carrying forward many threads of the Australian tradition. They also specialise in themed presentations (Henry Lawson, First World War, shearers, bushrangers, rebels) forging unique combinations of music, folklore and social history. The Roweths seamlessly combine new and old material, reflecting on modern Australia with all the depth of our strong traditional roots.
“Jason and Chloë Roweth are without question two of our finest interpreters of Australian traditional folk music. Their large body of work stands as a testament to their expertise as musicians; incorporating electric, country, blues, rock, grunge, show and ‘trad’ sounds to explore Australia’s rich traditions. Far from predictable in approach, they incorporate song, dance tunes and spoken word to showcase lesser-known songs alongside popular favourites; ultimately displaying their deep knowledge and respect for the material.” – Ruth Hazleton

We’re very happy to introduce singer/songwriter Cat Canteri!

Hailing from the grit and grime of Melbourne’s inner city, renowned songwriter Cat Canteri intertwines bold electric slide guitar with poignant and poetic lyrics to create music that’s both fragile and life affirming. With a disarming stage presence her songs document real life situations and experiences with a brave, personal and candid honesty. Her latest album ‘Inner North’ was described as “An impressive work of songwriting mastery” (The Music Below USA) and was nominated in The Age Music Victoria Awards for Best Folk/Roots Album. On her principal instrument, drum-kit, she’s backed the likes of Kutcha Edwards, Vikki Thorn (The Waifs) and Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything).
