Over-35’s Grand Final – THE REMATCH

The Over-35’s Grand Final lived up to its hype as Juventus Old Boys faced FC Bulleen Lions in a thrilling rematch. Despite struggling throughout the tournament to field a full squad, Juventus Old Boys showed remarkable resilience in their pursuit of back-to-back titles.

The stars came out to watch, including a special appearance from Massimo Murdoch and football legend Juan Mata — a World Cup, Euros, Champions League, FA Cup, and Europa League winner cheering on his mates Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Carl Valeri, hoping to see them lift the cup in 2025.

Both teams started at a blistering pace, creating early chances. A goalkeeping error in the 18th minute allowed Juventus Old Boys to take the lead, heading into halftime 1-0.

The second half saw both sides adopt free-flowing, attacking football. Juventus Old Boys extended their lead after a penalty awarded for a challenge in the box by the Bulleen keeper. Shortly after, they scored a third, giving them a comfortable advantage.

FC Bulleen Lions, desperate to respond, saw Fahid and Carl lift the intensity. They pulled one back, and with Juventus tiring, Bulleen struck again in the 88th minute to make it 3-2. With no extra time, the match would have gone straight to penalties if tied—but Juventus held on to secure the win.

Congratulations to both teams for delivering another thrilling final under extremely windy conditions. The match was played in great spirit, showcasing the best of Over-35’s football in Australia.

🏆🏆🏆🏆 Over-45’s | Essendon Triestina Unstoppable ⚽

The highly anticipated Over-45’s Final saw Essendon Triestina face off against competition newcomers Falcons, with Triestina arriving in full force, naming 21 players from a 22-man squad for the clash and boasting a star-studded lineup.

After a slow start to the tournament, Triestina hit their stride at exactly the right time. They struck first through quality build-up play and clinical finishing, quickly asserting their dominance. The Falcons responded well and settled into the contest, pulling a goal back and creating chances that could have made the match much tighter at halftime, unlucky to miss a penalty and hit the post.
Despite the Falcons’ pressure, Triestina went into the break holding a 5–2 lead.

The second half saw the Falcons push hard in search of a comeback, but Triestina’s disciplined defensive structure, precise passing, and controlled possession allowed them to take complete control. They extended their lead with ease, finishing strongly to secure an emphatic 8–3 victory.

👏 Congratulations to Essendon Triestina, crowned 2025 Coppa Italia – Champions Cup, on a dominant performance and a truly remarkable achievement by an outstanding team.

🏆Over 60’s - Coppa Italia Champions Cup🏆

The inaugural Over 60’s Coppa Italia Champions Cup marked a special milestone, with Juventus Old Boys taking on Croydon Ranges in the first final of the day.

The opening half was an arm wrestle, with both sides creating chances but neither able to break through, heading into halftime locked at 0-0.

The second half continued in a similar fashion early, before Croydon Ranges began to take control of the contest. Using their physical presence and experience, they set the standard and struck first. As Juventus pushed hard for an equaliser, Croydon capitalised with a second goal to secure a deserved 2-0 victory.

A fitting contest to launch the Over 60’s division and a great advertisement for the spirit of the game.

Over 35s Semi-Finals

The heavyweights stepped onto the field on a gorgeous summer day, and the action didn’t disappoint.

In the first semi-final, FC Bulleen Lions comfortably accounted for Avondale FC, who were competing in their first Coppa Italia. What many expected to be a hard-fought battle turned into a dominant display, with the Lions running out 6–1 winners. The result booked Bulleen yet another place in the 2025 Coppa Italia Grand Final, where they’ll be searching for redemption after last year’s heartbreaking loss on penalties.

The second semi-final was one for the ages. The 2024 Champions, Juventus O.B., who had struggled throughout the tournament to field a full squad, faced a formidable Fawkner side eager to go one better in 2025. The stage was set, and the match lived up to every expectation.

Both teams brought finals-level intensity from the opening whistle, with physical battles and high-pressure moments across the park. Fawkner struck first, taking a 1–0 lead and controlling much of the first half. Juventus O.B. came out in the second half pushing hard for an equaliser, but were continually denied by Fawkner’s well-organised defence until a foul in the box earned Juventus a penalty. They converted, locking the match at 1–1.

A very harsh red card, a late challenge that was clearly a yellow at most left Juventus O.B. a man down and to miss a key player for next week’s Grand Final, with talk already circulating about an appeal “through the high court.” Despite the setback, they held off Fawkner through to full-time, sending the game to penalties.

In the shootout, Juventus O.B. held their nerve, winning 5–4, and progressing to the Grand Final, setting up a blockbuster rematch against last year’s runners-up, FC Bulleen Lions.

Over 45’s Semi Finals

Entering Sunday’s semi-finals, the usual suspects took the field.

In the Over 45 competition, a depleted Juventus O.B. side faced Essendon Triestina in a rematch of last year’s grand final. Triestina started the tournament slowly but have been building nicely with availble players at the perfect time, defeating Juventus O.B. 3–0 and booking their place in yet another final — now chasing their fourth consecutive Coppa Italia title.

In the other semi-final, tournament newcomers Falcons took on Boronia G&P in a tight arm-wrestle. The Falcons held firm, taking their chances and securing a 2–0 win, earning themselves a place in the final.
