Over-35’s Grand Final – THE REMATCH
The Over-35’s Grand Final lived up to its hype as Juventus Old Boys faced FC Bulleen Lions in a thrilling rematch. Despite struggling throughout the tournament to field a full squad, Juventus Old Boys showed remarkable resilience in their pursuit of back-to-back titles.
The stars came out to watch, including a special appearance from Massimo Murdoch and football legend Juan Mata — a World Cup, Euros, Champions League, FA Cup, and Europa League winner cheering on his mates Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Carl Valeri, hoping to see them lift the cup in 2025.
Both teams started at a blistering pace, creating early chances. A goalkeeping error in the 18th minute allowed Juventus Old Boys to take the lead, heading into halftime 1-0.
The second half saw both sides adopt free-flowing, attacking football. Juventus Old Boys extended their lead after a penalty awarded for a challenge in the box by the Bulleen keeper. Shortly after, they scored a third, giving them a comfortable advantage.
FC Bulleen Lions, desperate to respond, saw Fahid and Carl lift the intensity. They pulled one back, and with Juventus tiring, Bulleen struck again in the 88th minute to make it 3-2. With no extra time, the match would have gone straight to penalties if tied—but Juventus held on to secure the win.
Congratulations to both teams for delivering another thrilling final under extremely windy conditions. The match was played in great spirit, showcasing the best of Over-35’s football in Australia.
