Creative Australia Leadership Labs support artists and arts workers to connect and make progress on shared priorities through an in-person day of inspiration and action.

Leadership Labs are free, one-day, in-person events designed to supports artist and arts workers to tackle the complex, systemic challenges across the arts and culture sector.

A cross between a workshop and a conference, the Leadership Labs help you better understand the system you’re working in, connect with peers in generative ways, and identify small but powerful actions you can test to create change.

At the Lab you’ll engage with inspiring perspectives from featured speakers, take part in practical breakout sessions, and leave with ideas you can apply in your context, organisation or community. You don’t need to be in a formal leadership role to attend – all you need is an interest in working collaboratively on shared challenges.

Each Lab is co-created with local curators to celebrate and platform sector-led leadership activity.

💲 Free to attend. Creative Australia knows that independent artists can experience barriers to attending leadership development events. If you are an independent artist, you can apply for a bursary of $500 to support you to attend the Leadership Lab. There are 10 bursaries available to apply for when you register for the event. They will allocate bursaries on a random basis.

Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta has been selected as a recipient of Creative Australia’s inaugural Creative Future Fund todevelop an epic new theatrical drama for stage through the Darwin to Dixon Street Project. This exciting new project will put the contribution of Australia’s Chinese community at its centre, weaving together multi-generational stories into a compelling new Australian play.

In this initial research and creative development phase, NTofP are reaching out to community and sector partners to collaborate on the delivery of targeted community engagement and story sharing sessions, including one-on-one interviews, panel discussions, readings and curated community event nights.

The team are excited to be based in Darwin June 1 - 5 connecting with the local Chinese Australian community and learning of this history. Come along and meet the team for this special free performance.

Australia's premier First Nations comedy competition, presented by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, is back looking for the most hilarious Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers from across the country.

Open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 18, participation is free, and all you need is five minutes of funny material. Whether it's stand-up, musical, sketch, physical, dance, character-based, or simply sharing a funny yarn, the stage is yours!

All participants are given an opportunity to sit with a seasoned professional comedian in a two-hour workshop prior to events to help refine ideas before unleashing their talent onstage.

National finalists are selected from events across the country. National finalists win a trip to Melbourne to perform at the Deadly Funny National Grand Final (which is recorded for broadcast on NITV) as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The national Deadly Funny winner receives a massive $3,000 cash prize.
