The Boab Tree
for DSAF26

“My intention for this mural was to incorporate elements that feel familiar and meaningful to the people of Darwin. The boab tree in the foreground is inspired by the iconic tree located in front of the city campus of . The way the tree naturally divides into two main branches created an ideal composition, framing a setting sun over a coastal landscape.

The mural combines flat planes of colour in the background with textured layers throughout the tree, creating contrast and helping to separate the foreground from the wider landscape. Elements of imagination and play are also woven into the work, with the boab tree stretched and squared at the top to respond to the unique shape of the wall and integrate with the architecture of the space.”

DSAF26 WALLS: BUILD UP BLOOMS


The build-up is hot, sticky, and full of anticipation as Darwin waits for the first rains of the wet season. It is also one of the most beautiful times of year, when Poinciana Trees erupt into brilliant red blooms and Christmas is just around the corner.

Build Up Blooms celebrates the colour, energy and beauty of this uniquely Top End season, a reminder that even in the heat and humidity, nature puts on a spectacular show ❤️
