PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER

This year’s Cygnet Folk Festival theme is " People Have the Power "— and we asked our community what those words mean to them.

A poem. A painting. A song. An interpretive dance. A wild idea.
What does "People Have the Power" mean to you, and to the festival as a whole?

We’ve loved seeing the beautiful, thoughtful and creative responses coming through. ❤️

Here is one of the gorgeous songs sent in reflecting this year’s theme. Huge thanks to Les Thomas for sharing this with us.

The song was written in the immediate aftermath of the Voice Referendum, during a time when many people were feeling grief, division and uncertainty about the kind of country we want to be. While it comes from that moment, the song ultimately aims to be hopeful and unifying rather than despairing. It’s about ordinary people holding onto compassion, dignity and solidarity, even in difficult times.

Keep the ideas coming, folks — we can’t wait to see what else emerges from this incredible community. email me at [email protected]
