Support these guys if you can! Coloured Wool and Fibre Company supported our event two years in a row by offering beautiful soap goodies. This local producer of wool and soaps lost everything in the January Walwa bushfires this year. They worked hard to make products available again and sell what they can while they rebuild everything. If you enjoyed their soaps or love good wool, give them a hand by buying through their online shop!

There is so much to say it will not fit in one post! We will share more pictures and memories in the weeks to come, but our immediate message will be a big shout out and thanks to:
.. all the participants for making this weekend special. Without you, the festival would be an empty shell; you are the soul of the event and what makes it worth it!
.. the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia, as well as Towong Shire Council, Oakwood Products, Bimbimbi Experiences and IGA - Corryong, for making it possible.
... the artists and the teachers from Corryong College, Walwa Primary School, Sacred Heart and Corryong Preschool for the inspired and creative contributions.
.. the volunteers, with special hat down to Kaye, Julie and Jelena, for being present all weekend as fantastic workmates.
.. Doni and Renee for keeping the relaxed, positive attitude throughout the emotional roller coster leading up to the event, and for delivering a fantastic boot camp and a mesmerizing show.
.. Stephen, Liz, Owen and Jose, for a memorable, authentic performance and for all the fun behind the stage too!
.. Ian for the beautiful asado.

With love and abrazos from Olga and Upper Murray Performing Arts team!

Meet the Musicians - OWEN SALOME (bandoneon)

Recently returned to Sydney after more than six years living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Owen is an Australian musician and composer. Owen is a prolific bandoneonist, and also performs on various wind instruments (flute, saxophone, quena, quenacho…).

Owen had numerous recognitions throughout his career, starting with first class honours graduating at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, followed by mentorship, tutorship, commissions and grants for artistic developments both in Argentina and in Australia. He was also selected to partake in the 16th Orquesta Escuela Emilio Balcarce, being the first Australian to ever win a bandoneón position in the 2-year program.

Owen is co-founder and director of la Tramoya tango orchestra and the Guanaco Trio which released an album in 2023. In 2024 Owen toured with Guanaco Trio to Chile and Australia in a 38-concert tour during March and April, including performances at the National Folk Festival, Brisbane City Hall, Cresfest, Yackandandah Folk Festival.

Owen is a member of the new Cuarteto ExTango performing their first concert at the Corryong Memorial Hall on Saturday 30 August.

Meet the Musicians - LIZ YOUNG (violin)

Liz Young studied violin under the tutelage of Spiros Rantos and Patricia Pollett at the University of Queensland (2004-2007) where she won the prestigious Sleath String Performance Prize (2007). She began dancing tango in 2010 and has continued to fall more in love with both tango dance and music. This has led her to further tango music study at Tango for Musicians at Reed College in Portland (OR), USA (2018) where she had lessons with Ramiro Gallo as well as lessons with Soledad Grigera from La Academia Tango Club when visiting Australia.

Liz has been a member of Mendoza Tango Quartet since 2016 and more recently Diez Cuerdas and Cien O Mas. She loves playing Golden Age tango dance music and regularly plays for dancers at milongas and events around Brisbane and Australia.

When not playing tango Liz performs as a soloist and with her other groups - DeepBlue Orchestra, Luminescence and with her children's show "LizzieLand".

Liz is a member of the new Cuarteto ExTango performing their first concert at the Corryong Memorial Hall on Saturday 30 August.
