With the last rider safely reaching the finish line, 2024 has now concluded. A huge congrats to all the riders on embarking on such an enormous undertaking. It is hoped that the experience was rich and meaningful, regardless of the outcome. Whilst the ride was a personal challenge, here are the world records / fastest known times for your reference:
Course: Short Course North to South (Kalbarri – Jambinu/Geraldton)
Distance: 287 km
Rider: To Be Confirmed*
Time: To Be Confirmed*
Style: Self-supported/No drafting
*currently finding out who reached the Point Moore Lighthouse first as it was really close. This will be confirmed in due course.
Course: Long Course South to North (Kalbarri - Walyalup/Fremantle)
Distance: 1151 km
Rider: Ross Chadwick ()
Time: 3 days 5 hours 25 minutes
Style: Self-supported/No drafting
Ross is also the current world record holder for the MWG 2023 long course, AND completed this year’s ride on a singlespeed bike, which itself is a mind-blowing achievement 👏
Whilst the MWG 2024 is now over, anyone can ride to tackle those records or take the time to tour the route. If you have ridden the MWG route on your own in any way, we would love to hear from you. Also, let us know if you have created a new record! In terms of the suitable riding season, we advise people to ride the route before the harvesting season starts in mid/late September as the roads get busy with trucks. Otherwise, we suggest riding it from late autumn/early winter (after the Easter Long weekend) to avoid the heat.
