Other potential policy makers include our Councillor Tessa Halliday and the ALP candidate for Ripon Martha Haylett. In all, there will be just under 100 people attending this important conversation with national speakers and leaders on ageing well in the community.

This time last week Attitude: Ageing Well in Clunes was getting ready to attend the launch of Hepburn Shire’s ‘No Barrier: Positive Ageing Strategy'. Opened by the Victorian Commissioner for Seniors, Gerard Mansour (also one of our keynote speakers at our conference in October), the event highlighted the role individuals and community groups can play in informing councils and services of the needs and opportunities that exist if we are to age well in our communities.

One of the reasons we need to start ‘Talking Ageing with Attitude’ is to challenge existing norms about retiring and getting older. National ageing expert Mike Rungie (and one of the guest speakers at our upcoming conference) is a huge advocate of this. Mike recently reminded people to ditch the ‘retirement mindset’ and instead, discover how Australians are continuing to grow and learn as they age?

It was hugely exciting to discover that his article referenced Attitude: Ageing Well in Clunes as an example of people leading the way.
