A two-day field day showcasing the latest in beef industry innovation, products & technology. The Northern Beef Producers Expo is an annual 2-day field day event that showcases the best of the Northern Beef Industry and aims to bring the latest innovations and technologies available to the Agricultural sector to the forefront of the industry. The NBPE brings together community and those from afar to truly appreciate the industry and all it has to offer.

🏆 NORTHERN PERFORMANCE FEEDER STEER CHALLENGE – RESERVE CHAMPION 🏆

After three challenging sections, 100 days on feed, and some outstanding competition across all eight pens, we can now announce our 2026 Northern Performance Feeder Steer Challenge Reserve Champion!

🥈 RESERVE CHAMPION – BURDEKIN DOWNS 🥈

With an outstanding 17 points out of the 24 available, Burdekin Downs have secured the title of Reserve Champion in our inaugural Northern Performance Feeder Steer Challenge!

Their performance throughout the competition has been exceptional, demonstrating the quality and consistency of their cattle across the full 100-day challenge — from the initial assessment, through feedlot performance and ultimately onto the hook.

A huge congratulations to Karl & Megan Knuth and the Burdekin Downs team on an outstanding result! 👏🐂

Burdekin Downs consistently remained highly competitive across the three sections, proving that success in this challenge is about producing cattle that can perform at every stage of the production system and their first cross Charbray steers are a credit to their cross breeding program.

🐂 NORTHERN PERFORMANCE FEEDER STEER CHALLENGE – SECTION THREE RESULTS 🐂

Section Three – Hook Assessment, based on key carcass quality attributes.

🏆 Kanda Pen A finished on top with an outstanding 88/100 carcass points. This pen also produced the single highest-scoring steer across all 80 head, based on the carcass assessment criteria.

🥈 Burdekin Downs followed very closely behind with an impressive 86/100 carcass points.

🥉 Emoh Ruo was hot on their heels with 81/100 carcass points.

The Northern Performance Feeder Steer Challenge - Section Two Results - Performance and weight gain over the 100-day feeding period.

🥇 St Ann’s Station with a pen of 10 Simmental cross steers, with an ADG of 2.45kg/day.

🥈 Dawson Vale Station with a pen of 10 Droughtmaster steers, with an ADG of 2.37kg/day - this pen also had the Highest Individual ADG across the whole competition, an outstanding 3.09kg/day. 👏🏽

🥉 St Ann’s Station with a pen of 10 Simmental Angus cross steers, with an ADG of 2.27kg/day.

The Northern Performance Feeder Steer Challenge – Section 1 results are in!

🥇 St Ann’s Station with a pen of 10 Simmental Angus cross steers, averaging 461 kg and 0T.

🥈 St Ann’s Station with a pen of 10 Simbrah steers, averaging 471 kg and 0T.

🥉 Dawson Vale Station with a pen of 10 Droughtmaster Charolais cross (Charmaster) steers, averaging 413 kg and 0–2T.

The quality of cattle entered in this year’s competition was truly impressive and is a credit to every vendor involved. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to:

As the dust settles on the Northern Beef Producers Expo 2026, we'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible committee behind the event.

This team worked tirelessly behind the scenes for months to bring the Expo to life, and we're incredibly proud of what was achieved together.

A special thank you also goes to our amazing volunteers, including Holly, Lyndon, Colleen, Antony and family, along with everyone else who lent a hand throughout the event.
