“Sweet Charity is a beast of a musical: all sharp lines, smoky attitude, and choreography that shows no mercy — the kind of dauntless challenge performers run toward because it’s the ultimate triple‑threat flex. Hornsby Musical Society rises to both glory and gauntlet with real panache, meeting the Bob Fosse vocabulary with razor‑clean shapes, bold character choices, and an ensemble that snaps through each number with personality to burn.” Faith in Theatres

“Hornsby’s Sweet Charity lands exactly where it should: big‑hearted, sharply drawn and pulsing with the kind of energy that makes you grin on the way out.” Faith in Theatres

“Max Waterson is sweet and unassuming as movie star Vittorio Vidal, giving “Too Many Tomorrows” an operatic glow that lifts him beyond caricature. His Vittorio feels like a man genuinely realising he’s in love with his glamorous, dramatic, marvellously diva‑ish muse, Ursula — played with delicious flair by Emma Derbidge — even as he’s ultimately changed by Charity.” Faith in Theatres

“Max Waterson’s voice penetrates the whole auditorium with depth and clarity as he plays the role of the slick actor celebrity Vittorio Vidal” Sydney Arts Guide

"Among the supporting cast, Max Waterson stood out as Vittorio Vidal. Rather than pushing the role into parody, Waterson gave Vittorio genuine charm and sweetness, especially during “Too Many Tomorrows,” which landed with surprising sincerity." What's the Show

"James Denton’s Oscar Lindquist provided an effective counterpoint to Charity’s energy. Denton wisely leaned into Oscar’s physical awkwardness, using nervous movement, hesitant posture, and restrained reactions to make the character endearing rather than merely eccentric. This physicality gradually softened during the Ferris wheel scene, allowing genuine warmth and connection to emerge naturally between the two leads. Denton’s understated comic work during “I Love to Cry at Weddings” was particularly effective, with small physical reactions and visible discomfort generating both humour and sympathy." - What's the Show

"James Denton as Oscar Lindquist, the anxious and loveable love interest, was charismatically genuine with his performance. His comedic timing was superb and had the whole audience laughing." - Salt House Creative

"James Denton brings a similar warmth to Oscar Lindquist — the anxiety‑riddled, buttoned‑up accountant who falls for Charity. Their chemistry sparks instantly in the awkward stuck‑elevator meet‑cute, giving both actors room to flex their comic timing. His endearing goofiness reframes Oscar’s neuroses as insecurity rather than judgement, and the way his and Charity’s vulnerabilities slowly learn to breathe together is genuinely touching." - Faith in Theatres

Only 2 more chances to see James as Oscar - Saturday 23rd at 2pm, and Sunday 24th at 2pm.

"Alfieris brings charm, vulnerability, spark, and sincerity to the role without ever reducing Charity to caricature or sentimentality. Her performance captures the essential contradiction of the character: a woman repeatedly bruised by disappointment who continues moving through life with irrepressible optimism. That emotional openness carried through her singing and dancing, creating a Charity who always felt emotionally alive and in motion." - What's the Show

"Victoria Alfieris as the titular character, Charity Hope Valentine, brought a graceful and youthful presence to the stage. A true triple threat, she commanded the stage like a pro." - Salt House Creative

"Victoria Alfieris gives Charity Hope Valentine a warmth and dogged optimism that frames her as a survivor, not a naïf. She balances brassy comedy with a grounded vulnerability that keeps the audience firmly in her corner. Her performance has a looseness that feels lived‑in — a woman who’s been knocked down enough times to stop pretending. Her vocals match: open, unvarnished, emotionally exposed, yet able to punch through the big numbers with bite." - Faith in Theatres

Only 2 more chances to see Victoria as Charity - Saturday 23rd at 2pm, and Sunday 24th at 2pm.
