After more than 8 years, the time has come for me to bid farewell to Deaf Breakfast Canberra…
This is not easy post to write and it wasn’t an easy decision either.
When Deaf Breakfast Canberra started more than eight years, I remembered that we had something similar back in the early 2000s. That eventually dissolved, but years later, I wanted to see something like it come back.
The idea was pretty simple: create a regular rotating places where Deaf people could come together, catch up, meet new faces, share a laugh, over breakfast and coffee and just enjoy being part of the community.
Somehow, more than eight years has flown past. There has been so many familiar faces, new faces that became familiar faces, conversations across tables, coffees, laughs, friendships and memories built over the years.
I’ve seen people from the walks of life, walk through not quite sure what to expect and leave having made new connections and I have seen old friends reconnect and everyone simply enjoyed having somewhere they could turn up and belong.
That was always Deaf Breakfast was about.
But after more than eight years, of organising it, I felt it is time for me to close this chapter and bring Deaf Breakfast Canberra to an end.
I want to say a genuine thank you to every single member who has supported it over the years, whether you came regularly, came once or twice, helped spread the word, brought friends along or simply supported what I have been doing for the community.
You are what Deaf Breakfast Canberra became.
I’m incredibly proud that something so simple lasted for more than eight years and created so many memories and connections within our community.
Of course, Canberra’s deaf community isn’t going anywhere. There will still be friendships, catch-ups, coffees, breakfasts and plenty of conversations happening long after this page closes.
This is simply the end of Deaf Breakfast Canberra’s chapter.
Thank you for being part of it.
Thank you for the memories and most of all, thank you for showing up.
After more than eight years, Deaf Breakfast Canberra is signing off.
Much love, JC. ♥️
