Tara Diversi has been building and backing innovative ventures since 2008, with successful exits and early-stage investments along the way. She assesses research commercialisation grants, facilitates national investment advisory panels, and advises government on digital health. A Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and board chair, Tara is Director of Launch Y(E)P and has been part of the Cairns business community since 2002.

Nicky Jurd is the managing director of Precedence, the Cairns web development and hosting firm she co-founded more than 25 years ago, and has spent her career helping small businesses get more out of technology. She's known for explaining tech in plain English, and runs hands-on AI workshops that take business owners from first prompt to practical results.

Cheryl Mack is the co-founder and CEO of Ventari (formerly Aussie Angels), the platform behind more than 60 angel funds and syndicates that have put $75 million into Australian and New Zealand startups. An active angel investor with more than 36 investments, she leads her own syndicate, co-runs 361 Angel Club, and previously ran StartCon, where she created the APAC-wide Pitch for $1M competition.

Introducing Frankenstein's Great Debate: AI trick or treat?

Paul Furse brings his Great Debate to Deep Dive into AI, Halloween edition. One rule: no fence sitting.

In one corner, handing out full-size chocolate bars: AI is the best thing to land in a regional business owner's lap since the internet, and the fear is just a ghost story. Team Treat brings the sugar, led by captain Nicky Jurd with Tony Williamson and Angus Russell.

And in the other, peering into the lolly bag: AI is a treat for whoever owns it, and that's nobody in this room. Team Trick brings the dread, led by captain Jannah Dryden with Donna Patane and Tim Lyon.

Costumes on, gloves off. You decide who wins.

Sides are assigned for the fun of it, so don't hold anyone to their argument on Monday morning!

On Friday 30 October we're closing the day with a Halloween Pitch Party at Tropic Tech, in front of a room of founders, builders and people who want to back good ideas.

We're looking for early-stage startups or AI projects from Far North Queensland. You get two minutes to pitch, no slides. Selected startups also get a free ticket to the full day of Deep Dive into AI.
