🔔 A mighty HUZZAH for GIA Scaffold Pty Ltd ! 🔔

This year, we are delighted to welcome GIA Scaffold Pty Ltd as a valued sponsor of the Abbey Medieval Festival.

Thanks to their generous support, a brand-new Village Bell Tower will stand proudly in Abbeystowe, helping bring another authentic piece of medieval life to our Festival.

Long before watches, mobile phones, or modern technology, the village bell was the heartbeat of the community. Its ringing marked the passing of the hours, called townsfolk together, announced celebrations, warned of emergencies, and signalled the close of day.

Throughout the Festival weekend, visitors will hear the bells toll across the village as they would have centuries ago. Details will be included in our upcoming Loud Sounds Guide. Please note that the bell tower will remain silent during Friday Family Fun Day.

This exciting new addition to Abbeystowe is only possible thanks to the support of GIA Scaffold Pty Ltd, and we are thrilled to add another immersive feature to our medieval village experience.

Join us in raising a cheer for our newest sponsors...

We are excited to announcing the return Lady Amanda Challen with her beloved Nyx!

Hot on their heels (and hooves), we are VERY excited to introduce a new competitor...
Making his debut to the Moreton Bay Joust Championship, please welcome Sir Matthew Woods!

The competition will be strong between these two Moreton Bay locals.

Lady Amanda's horsemanship skills have been over 30 years in the making, the last 10 as a jouster! In fact, her jousting career started in 2016 right here at the Abbey Medieval Festival. Training under Luke Binks of The Gryphon Company to this day, Amanda has placed 3rd in 2022 and 4th in 2023 as well as having competed at St Ives Medieval Faire, Kryal Castle, the 2023 Keith Ryall Tournament, and the 2026 Blacktown Medieval Festival.

Though new to the joust, Matthew is no stranger to martial competitions. He has competed in archery and full-contact sword-and-shield combat. Matthew has been riding for only 2 years, but has that time mastering the lance, the saddle, and the art of mounted combat. It was here, at the Abbey Medieval Festival more than 25 years ago, that his love of medieval reenactment first began — and today he rides Groot, a mighty and experienced Percheron gelding trained by Amanda who placed 1st in 2023 Moreton Bay Joust with Sir Luke.

Lady Amanda 🐂
Heraldry 🛡️: Per pale Azure and Argent, a fess dancetty counterchanged; in the sinister chief a bull's head couped Gules, armed and ringed Or.

Sir Matthew 🌳
Heraldry 🛡️: Vert, an inverted chevron ermine cotised Or an oak tree eradicated Or in chief
Motto 📜: Ex Radicibus Robur (From The Root, Strength)

Give them both a mighty HUZZAH and fare thee well for the 2026 Moreton Bay Joust Championship!

Please welcome back to the Moreton Bay Joust Championship, Sir Rodney Deaman AND Lady Liberty Deaman! 📯👏

Both Sir Rodney and Lady Liberty have been jousting for the last 6 years.

Sir Rodney is a passionate advocate of mounted combat sports and reenactment. He has competed in events such as mounted and unmounted knightly duels, mounted melees, 13th and 15th Century Solid Lance jousting, 15th Century solid lance jousting, open field battles – and that’s without even getting into his career as a horse archer. Recently, Rodney was inducted into the Order of the Star, Australia’s highest order of knights who are dedicated to preserving and promoting the sport of jousting in the modern day.

Lady Liberty has been riding since she was a small child, and is a skilled in show jumping, dressage, cross country, sporting, showing, hunting, horse archery, skill at arms, mounted combat, and classical equitation! She now spends a large amount of her timing training horses, teaching horse management and riding basics, as well as horse archery, skill at arms and introduction to jousting. Liberty was recently knighted in acknowledgement of her dedication to jousting, having competed at the Abbey Medieval Festival, Blacktown Medieval Festival, Keith Ryall Memorial Tournament, Victorian Medieval Faire, and Tarago Medieval Faire so far.

Attention Citizens of Abbeystowe 📯

Hear ye, hear ye! The Sheriff commands that all weaponry accessories intended for entry into Abbeystowe this July be registered without delay.

To safeguard the lands and all who travel within it, costumed weapons must be declared under oath of honesty and integrity. By submitting your declaration and securing your weapons pass, you pledge that your items comply with the laws of the village and that you shall carry them responsibly under the watchful eye of the Sheriff.

>Submit your weapons pass applications ASAP!<
Closes 5pm, 30 June.
$6.05 processing fee.
One application covers up to 3 weapons - perfect if you have a different costume each day.

Got questions- see the website for FAQs or to apply!
https://www.abbeymedievalfestival.com/costuming-and-weapons/

Why am I paying?
Rather than a blanket ban on accessories, we work closely with QPS to manage risk and safety. To continue to deliver the experience you love at the Festival, we are still permitted to allow costume weapons with careful safety measures. This fee covers administration costs and a portion goes towards the Abbey Museum's fundraising purposes. If you don't want to pay - that's fine, just leave your accessories at home.
