Happy Bis*xual Visibility Week 🩷💜💙

Here's a little bit about why we Celebrate/Acknowledge the day:

Bi people often face the false idea that their orientation is just a phase or that they must choose a binary label (gay or straight). According to GLAAD, “ draws attention to the experiences, while also celebrating the resiliency of the bis*xual+ community. To those within the community that identify with the Bi community, we see you; you are valid, and most importantly, you are loved.

Happy Wear It Purple Day 🏳️‍🌈
Here's a little history behind why we celebrate/acknowledge the Day:

Wear It Purple was founded in 2010 after a series of tragic stories highlighted the devastating impact that bullying, discrimination and exclusion were having on LGBTQIA+SB young people. This year's Wear It Purple Day theme, Colours of Courage, recognises the bravery it takes to push for change in schools, workplaces, communities and institutions where conversations about LGBTQIA+SB lives do not always happen. It celebrates the allies who choose to stand up, speak out and ask what they can do to help create safer, more inclusive spaces. It also honours the courage of generations of LGBTQIA+SB people who came before us, and the strength of young people today as they continue to build community, connection and visibility.

🏳️‍🌈 The 2026 Census is happening tomorrow, Tuesday 11 August, and there’s an important option LGBTQIA+ people should know about.

Usually, one person in a household completes the Census for everyone. But you can request a separate Census form if you want to complete your Census privately or separately from other members of your household.

Even if a household form has already been submitted with information about you, you can still request your own form to complete separately. The ABS can use the information you provide on your own form and disregard the information about you that was included on the household form.

This might be important if you’re concerned that someone else could provide information about you that isn’t accurate, such as your gender, s*xual orientation, s*x recorded at birth, religion or other personal information.

For example, you may:
🏳️‍⚧️ not be out to everyone in your household
🏳️‍🌈 have family members who don’t know or understand how you identify
💜 want to make sure your answers reflect how you identify
🔒 have privacy concerns about another household member completing the form for you

You can request a separate form from the ABS.
📞 Census Contact Centre: 1800 181 227

Accurate LGBTQIA+ data matters. It helps build a clearer picture of our communities and supports planning for health, community and other services.

Your identity. Your answers. Your Census. 🏳️‍🌈

Our friends at Trans Justice Project have kicked off a really important survey to help build a vision for trans health care that works for everyone.

It will outline actionable recommendations for federal and state governments to fund care, fix the system, invest in trans leadership, and protect trans health care from political attack.

Happy non binary peoples day !

Today is International Non-Binary People's Day

Each year, this day provides an opportunity to celebrate non-binary folk and recognise their experiences, contributions and achievements.

A non-binary person is someone whose gender identity is not exclusively male or female. They may identify as a mix of genders, somewhere outside the gender binary, or with no gender at all. There is no one way to be non-binary, and every person's experience is unique.

Let's continue to foster understanding, inclusion and respect for people of all gender identities.

And this week we will be holding a Carers Conversation with the LGBTQIA+ carers community to help shape the new WA Carers Strategy. I’ll be co-facilitating this session with Living Proud WA. Link in the comments to attend online or in person

🏳️‍🌈Announcing Albany Pride Mini Fest 2027!🐳

Over the past 10 years, we have created a really special regional Pride festival with you, our amazing family.

So we’re here to tell you that in 2027, Albany Pride Festival will be made over into one fantastic Labor Day long weekend of celebration, rather than our traditional multi-week program.

This will give us the chance to strengthen our volunteer community, welcome new voices into leadership and to plan an exciting future in which the Festival thrives for many years to come.

Our support groups, End of Month Drinks, advocacy work and community activities will continue unabated throughout 2027 and we can’t wait to share more details about the 2027 Festival with you soon!
