Experience an extraordinary evening of violin virtuosity as internationally acclaimed Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova and masterful pianist Berta Brozgul present a spellbinding program of passion and intensity.
✨ Programme Highlights: • Janáček's haunting Violin Sonata - a powerful testament to Czech modernism • Beethoven's legendary 'Kreutzer' Sonata - perhaps one of the most dramatic and demanding violin sonatas ever written.
About the Artists: Sophia Kirsanova, fresh from her acclaimed 2024 debut album "The Morning Mist," brings her "outstanding technique and musicality" (Latvietis) to Brunswick. A sought-after soloist who has performed with major orchestras, including the Latvian National Symphony and Israel Camerata, Sophia currently serves as a Teaching Associate at the Melbourne Conservatory of Music.
South African-born Berta Brozgul, praised for her "strongly individual" performances by John Lill OBE, graduated from Austria's prestigious Mozarteum. Following her 2023 debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, she now holds the position of Associate Faculty at ANAM.

The Brunswick Beethoven Festival brings together internationally acclaimed performers for a festival of the finest classical chamber music in Brunswick, inner Melbourne – and for the lowest prices so that everybody can afford to come and hear these exceptional artists playing the great classical composers – Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Handel, Piazolla, Paganini, Elgar, Albinez, Chopin, Debussy and more.
The Festival, now in its 13th year under the musical directorship of Sergio de Pieri, features the following internationally recognised artists: classical guitarist Massimo Scattolin, mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell, soprano Stefania Bellamio, violinists Sara Curro, Monica Curro, Helen Ayres, Erika Kennedy and Tomomi Kondo, baroque oboist Jane Downer, cellists Josephine Vains, Timothy Nankervis, Luke Severn, Jamie Hey and Dan Curro, pianists Anna Goldsworthy, Elyane Laussade and Benjamin Martin, clarinetist Phillip Arkinstall, organist Anthony Halliday and Harpsichordist David McFarlane.
And there is a lot more, including a favourite of the Festival – Australia’s Stefan Cassomenos, recognised because of his masterful playing – a favourite with Kawai Australia who provides the Shigeru concert grand piano for the Festival.
This year, we are pleased to be joined by the internationally acclaimed Michael Kieran-Harvey on piano.
