Shinju Matsuri, the festival of the pearl, has always been a festival based on Broome’s unique community spirit, cultural diversity and vibrant history. The festival celebrates the four diverse cultures which have come together in Broome over the past century for pearls: Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese and Indigenous Australian. Shinju Matsuri will always encapsulate the values of the Broome community, running annually since 1970. Immerse yourself in one of Western Australia's most iconic festivals celebrating history, arts, food, community and culture across an array of events over 16 days. Vision: To deliver a festival that celebrates Broome by involving local performers and artists, honouring our cultural and pearling history, encouraging community participation and displaying our town as a desirable tourism destination.

Our HEAD LINE act brings together a five-piece band and nine singers for one huge celebration of Raised in Big Spirit Country — home to Broome after a sell-out season in Perth.

What an incredible few weeks it has been!

As we gear up for the final events on the 2026 Shinju Matsuri calendar, we want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has joined us, supported us and helped bring this year’s festival to life.

To the artists, creators, builders, makers, performers, entertainers, volunteers, crews, sponsors, supporters and community members who came together from across Broome and beyond—thank you. Your talent, energy, generosity and enthusiasm make Shinju Matsuri the magical Broome moment it is.

But we’re not finished yet!

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night at Guwarri / Town Beach for the Festival Finale, featuring a red-hot lineup of local entertainment, delicious food and a wondrous drone show lighting up the sky.

Our Shinju Matsuri Long Table Dinner is officially sold out — thank you, Broome! ❤️

But if you’re looking for something special to do tonight there’s still time to experience Raised in Big Spirit Country, coming home to Broome for special evening.

Presented by Black Swan State Theatre Company and Pigram Productions, in association with Goolarri Media Enterprises, this powerful celebration of the Broome sound returns home after a sold-out season at the State Theatre Centre in Perth.

🎶 Led by Naomi Pigram-Mitchell, a stellar cast of Broome’s finest musicians, vocalists and performers come together to honour the legendary artists who created the Broome sound — while celebrating the voices shaping its future.

Set beneath the stars at the Goolarri Amphitheatre, enjoy an unforgettable night of culture, connection and song, with local art maker stalls and plenty of delicious food to enjoy.

Let’s send Shinju Matsuri 2026 out in style!

Gather your friends and family and join us at Town Beach on Sunday 6 September for a joy-filled Festival Finale presented by Lotterywest

From 5pm, settle in beside Roebuck Bay and enjoy live performances, delicious eats from the Festival Finale Food Markets and one last magical evening together.

We’ll farewell Sammy the Dragon for another year before the Broome International Airport and Shire of Broome Drone Show lights up the night sky for a spectacular finish!

Bring a picnic rug, find your spot on the lawn and get ready for music, food, laughter and celebration under the stars.
