Great day at Annerley Junction Fest on Saturday, chatting to locals about walking, riding and general street and public space improvement opportunities around Annerley. We had 6-8 volunteers and over 50 positive conversations at our stall.
Some particular talking points included:
- opportunity for slower streets now that Ipswich Rd is 50km/hr, which will support people moving more comfortably on foot or bicycle around Annerley
- opportunities for pedestrian and bike priority crossings on streets like Ekibin Rd and Waterton St, to support a connected safe route for kids travelling to Junction Park State School
- update on the Annerley Rd investigations by BCC, with a reporter whopping positive response of around 700 surveys completed
- opportunities to make Ipswich Rd and Dudley St East a more attractive โtown centreโ for Annerley, with more trees, bike parking and even a pocket park potential to enrich the area as a place for people and not just cars
-EDIT: how could I forgot our fantastic bike bus program, as well as future discussions we are having with Junction Park State School P&C :-)
Thanks to Cr Nicole Johnston, who we had a good chat to, and along with the AJF team puts a huge amount of effort into this fantastic community event each year. Tricky time of year with the heat but it was a great day.
