# How Can Music Support Children’s Emotional Wellbeing?

Young children can feel frustration, worry, excitement, sadness and anger, often before they have the words to explain what is happening.

Music can give them another way to express those feelings.

In this video, I talk about how rhythm, movement, singing and familiar songs can help children release energy, settle themselves, manage transitions and feel more connected to the people around them.

Music is not just about entertainment. It can also become a valuable tool for helping children understand and manage their emotions.

# How Can Music Support Children’s Emotional Wellbeing?

Young children can experience big emotions, but they do not always have the words to explain how they are feeling.

Music can give them another way to express themselves.

A lively rhythm can help release energy, while a gentle melody can encourage children to slow down and settle. Singing, clapping, dancing and playing instruments can also help children connect with others and communicate without needing to find the perfect words.

Music can even make everyday transitions easier by giving children familiar cues for what is happening next.

At Swaggie Kids, we believe music is about much more than learning songs. It can help children build confidence, connection and emotional awareness while having fun at the same time.

Does Music Enhance Play in Children?

What happens when you add music to something children already love doing?

Play becomes an opportunity to move, listen, imagine, communicate, create and connect.

A simple song can inspire an adventure. A rhythm can become a movement game. Clapping, dancing, singing and playing instruments can help children practise coordination, listening, language, confidence and social skills without it ever feeling like a lesson.

That is one of the things I love about music.

Children think they are simply having fun, but there can be so much learning happening at the same time.

In this week's Swaggie Kids blog, we look at how music can enhance everyday play and create even more opportunities for children to learn through joyful experiences.

**How Does Musical Training Shape the Brain?**

When children sing, move to a beat, remember a melody or play an instrument, far more is happening than simply making music.

Their brains are listening, remembering, coordinating movement, recognising patterns and responding to cues, often all at the same time.

Musical experiences can support important skills including concentration, memory, language, coordination, self-control and emotional wellbeing.

At Swaggie Kids, we believe children learn best when they are actively involved. Music gives them the opportunity to move, explore, listen, play and learn through experiences they genuinely enjoy.

Watch the video to discover how musical training can help support the developing brain.

# # If Every Dollar Has to Count, What Should an Early Learning Incursion Actually Deliver?

When budgets are tight, every program in an early learning centre needs to earn its place.

An incursion should do more than entertain children for an hour. It should support learning, encourage participation and give children opportunities to build skills they can carry into other areas of their development.

At Swaggie Kids, we use music, rhythm, movement and instruments to help children practise listening, concentration, memory, coordination, communication and confidence, while they are having fun.

In our latest blog, we look at what centres should really expect from an early learning incursion and why meaningful music experiences can offer far more than entertainment.

When children sing and play with sounds, they are building important early literacy skills that support language development and reading. Turning sounds into songs makes learning fun, memorable and engaging while helping children take another step towards recognising and reading words.
