A historic moment for the Brisbane Showgrounds.

Today, we officially marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, alongside Hutchinson Builders, with work underway on the $287.5 million major revitalisation of the Showgrounds, as part of the Queensland Government’s $3.5 billion investment in athlete villages for the 2032 Games and beyond.

The project includes a new Machinery Hill grandstand for the Main Arena, with significantly improved accessibility, restoration of the heritage-listed John MacDonald and Ernest Baynes grandstands, a new Horse Pavilion and more.

These improvements will ensure the Brisbane Showgrounds remains a place where Queenslanders can come together to celebrate, connect and enjoy major events - while ensuring the much-loved Ekka continues at its historic home for generations to come.

Securing the Ekka to 2032 and beyond 🎡

We’re securing the future of Queensland’s most iconic show, with a major revitalisation of the Brisbane Showgrounds, with the Ekka remaining at its home through to 2032 Games and beyond.

For more than 150 years, the Ekka has been a place where city meets country and Queenslanders come together to celebrate our state 🐄

The major upgrades, delivered in partnership with the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA), will see the showgrounds transformed with a new 20,000-seat main arena, including a new Machinery Hill grandstand and horse pavilion as well as significant accessibility improvements.

Transforming the RNA Showgrounds🍦

We’re delivering major upgrades and legacy infrastructure to support the future of the Ekka for 2032 and beyond with a 20,000 seat Main Arena, grandstands, horse pavilion and accessibility upgrades.

The future Brisbane Athlete Village will also overlook the showgrounds and will be the largest village for the 2032 Games, accommodating thousands of athletes and officials before becoming a place to call home for more Queenslanders. 🏡

This follows last year's works which have already been undertaken, including restoration works on two heritage-listed grandstands and planning and design for the Main Arena upgrade 🏗️

The showground’s transformation is all part of our plan to build Queensland’s future for the 2032 Games and beyond.
