Brisbane-based hip hop artist, producer and visionary Ozi Jarel blends together timeless creativity, thoughtful lyricism and captivating rhythms in the hope that his art form can bridge the divide between his multi-ethnic community. Ugandan and Sudanese in heritage, Ozi Jarel is inspired by his ancestry, exploring his culture and the universal concepts of humankind through intricate wordplay, conscious delivery, and poetic expression.
Influenced by icons of the genre, including Tupac, Skepta and Kendrick Lamar, Ozi Jarel’s music is meticulously crafted with subtle yet powerful themes, infused with soul, hip-hop and flow that delivers the noblest sense of purpose in every track.
With a magnetic stage presence and a mastery of crowd control, Ozi Jarel has performed across Australia and Uganda, selling out 2 headline hard ticket shows (one in Brisbane and one in Kampala), performing at Summer Solstice, The Brisbane Festival, and Yonder Fest, as well as at the BigSound Showcase in 2019, where he was hand-selected to perform in front of Australian music industry personnel and audiences alike.
Following the release of multiple singles and 3 EPs, Ozi Jarel has received support from national and community radio stations including Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, and 4ZZZ, international radio play and features in the Hot 100 in Kampala, Uganda and across the UK and has been nominated for the Best Hip Hop Single at the Queensland Music Awards.
Ozi Jarel recently released his highly anticipated mixtape, The Veritas II, on December 12th, 2022. The 11-track project is the sequel to his first mixtape released on the Hot 100 in Kampala, Uganda. It discusses Jarel’s journey of staying true to his traditional ethos in a foreign paradigm, layered with compelling lyricism, dynamic melodies, and innate energy that has become a signature in his artistry.
