Lions Clubs International is an association of independent Lions Clubs from 206 countries around the world. Today, worldwide membership is 1.35 million in more than 46,000 Clubs, making Lions the world’s largest service club organisation. In Australia, there are 1,400 Lions Clubs with a membership of 29,000 men and women. Through voluntary service, community involvement and international cooperati

on, Lions Clubs aim:
• to create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people,
• to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship, and
• to meet the humanitarian needs of those less fortunate than us. The Moorooka Lions Club has been serving the local community for over 47 years. The club is still very active, raising funds for charitable causes and disaster relief, providing assistance to people in need, and creating opportunities for today’s youth to develop the skills they need to be tomorrow’s civic leaders. Moorooka Lions:
• Organise community events such as the Moorooka Community Festival,
• Raise funds through Lions Christmas Cakes and Lions Mints, raffles, parking cars at sporting events, and barbecues and sausage sizzles,
• Encourage students to enter the Lions Youth of the Year Quest,
• Clean up our community with events like Clean Up Australia,
• Participate in the Brisbane City Council Home Help scheme,
• Support community functions though equipment loan and volunteers. Monies raised by the Club are invested back into the community, often directly to people in need, and sometimes through other community organisations, through medical research projects at the Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals, and through support for other Lions projects. Last year, Moorooka Lions donated more than $20000 to a wide range of causes. Dinner Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday each Month. Service projects and fund-raising activities happen at various times according to need and members’ availability. We welcome enquiries about our Club’s activities and projects. Congratulations Tony, well deserved award.
Tony is a long-time resident of Tarragindi and has also been president of the Salisbury RSL Sub-branch for many years, it has always been a pleasure to work with Tony on Remembrance and ANZAC Day's at the Salisbury Memorial Park.

Congratulations to a truly Outstanding member of our Community.

This ANZAC Day, I had the pleasure of catching up with Tony Stevenson OAM.

I've known Tony for over 20 years, during which time he has served the local community faithfully, Organising ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services- even personally maintaining and mowing Salisbury RSL Memorial Park.

Tony is a man who personifies the ANZAC spirit and the good character of our local community.

That's why it was so fantastic to hear he was recognised as a 2026 ANZAC of the year.

Thank you for everything, Tony.

We were again proud to be a part of the dawn and morning services put on by the Salisbury RSL Sub-Branch at the Salisbury Memorial Park, Industries Rd.
It was a bit cold and wet but that did not deter hundreds from making their way to the park before sunrise to reflect on the courage and sacrifices made by the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.
Today we honour the ANZAC spirit and remind ourselves of the resilience, mateship and strength found in unity.
Lest We Forget.
