Something special is happening up at Liawenee. The brown trout spawning run has kicked off, and it’s one of those moments that reminds you just how good Tasmania’s outdoors really is.

Huge credit to the team at the Inland Fisheries Service and Hydro Tasmania. If you’re keen to see what’s unfolding (and why it matters), it’s well worth a look.

After months of careful planning - and a little help from the weather - the Liawenee brown trout spawning run is officially underway, and the fish have wasted no time responding. The 2025–26 brown trout season wraps up at 11:59 pm, Sunday 3 May 2026 marking the end of another incredible season across Tassie’s highland waters with most fisheries taking a well-earned winter break until the season reopens on Saturday 1 August 2026.

But it’s not over just yet… if you’re keen to squeeze in a few more sessions (and don’t mind a bit of highland chill and some lovely warm days), there are still some great Central Highlands options open a little longer & plenty of spots open year-round across the Highlands.

Winter fishing in the Highlands hits different quieter shores, misty mornings, and that magic feeling when it all comes together. Stay safe, rug up, respect the conditions....and as always: tight lines.

With campfire season now back across much of Tasmania, it’s a good reminder of what makes time in the Central Highlands so special.

Bushfest is all about the outdoors, fresh air, open space, and those simple moments you don’t get anywhere else. Early starts, full days out, and winding down by the fire as the temperature drops.

If you’re heading out, take a moment to check local conditions and fire restrictions, and always follow safe campfire practices.

It’s more than a weekend — it’s a reason to visit.

BushFest has become Tasmania’s outdoors. From a standing start to 7,000 attendees and still growing, the Festival brings together Tasmania’s outdoor community in one place, the heart of Tasmania, for one weekend.

Fishing. Hunting. Camping. 4WD. Not just watching — doing.

This isn’t a passive audience. They camp, cast, drive, explore and invest in the gear to do it well. Hands-on. High engagement. No noise. With strong dwell time and minimal promotional clutter, BushFest creates genuine connection between brands and people.

If your brand belongs in the outdoors it belongs here.
